Messed up hormones after miscarriage

Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether anyone could shed some light on this/has been through the same thing, as the doctors have not been very helpful. After having an early miscarriage (7 weeks) in January, I seem to have suddenly inherited quite noticeable hormone imbalances. My cycles have become much longer (34-36 days) than before and my periods hand also been long (9 days with spotting and brown discharge on either side of the main period). In the second half of my cycle every month, I have got very strong pregnancy symptoms (fuller, painful breasts, pointed/darker nipples, heightened smell, nausea) but also have had weird symptoms (severe night sweats, acne and feeling cold even when the weather is warm) which seem almost menopausal but I am 28 so fast shouldn't be happening. It had been 6 months now and the problem hasn't rectified and I am therefore worried as we have been BDing every other day for 3 weeks of the month so have covered all possibilities! My system should be sorted now. Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: Messed up hormones after miscarriage

  • Welcome, and I'm sorry for your loss.  Pregnancy, even short ones, can wreck havoc on your hormones and it's very common for you to "reset" to a "new normal".    I have never been the same after my mc, I developed a shorter luteal phase, down to 10-11 days when it used to be a rock solid 14.

If you aren't charting (temping + OPK's) you really should for a while to get a better idea of what your body is trying to do at this point.  Unfortunately this could be your new normal.   If you haven't gotten a BFP after 1 year of trying, you should see a specialist for testing (an RE, not an OBGYN).

    Good luck!

  • Sorry for your loss.  You might also consider getting some bloodwork done to test your TSH regarding the night sweats and feeling cold. It could be your thyroid.  I had similar symptoms and was found the have hypothyroidism.  Once I started on synthroid I haven't had a single episode of night sweats.  Your thyroid is a hormone so it can effect all the symptoms you have mentioned.  Might be worth checking out.  Good luck.
  • I have had the opposite problem since my miscarriage in December. My cycles are now 23-26 days with my longest period since then being a day and a half and being mostly just spotting. My doctor just said it can take up to a year for hormones to regulate... You might still have HCG in your system, I still had double digit HCG four months after my miscarriage. My doctors didn't believe that I was still having sore boobs and constant nausea until I made them give me a blood test. I ended up needing a second d&c. Definitely make an appointment.

Hello, I came across your old post but I am going through the same exact situation and wanted to know how everything worked out for you. I have a sonogram and doctors appointment scheduled for next week. I am very concerned about my health post MC. :(  @hb283
