Down Syndrome

If any Mum's receive the diagnosis of Down Syndrome and want to know anything about what kind of life/opportunities your child will have, please contact me. I have lots of information and experience with my beautiful brother Felix.

Down Syndrome is scary, until you have loved someone with Down Syndrome yourself. After that, the fear is gone and amazement takes its place.
These are people, just like you and me.

We're more alike than different.

  • That's really sweet of you to offer your first hand experience and support! Thank you!
  • I just know that a lot of the information doctors offer on Trisomy 21 is very outdated. My brother was diagnosed in utero and the stuff they say sounds really scary! I just want to offer a different perspective. The things these kids can achieve is amazing! If I can help anyone at all see the 'up-side' of Down Syndrome, I will be so happy.. @CBWifey
  • This is very sweet of you.

  • I have a nephew with Down syndrome. He's a lovely child. He was quite sick when he was born, but then his liver got better all by itself, and he's doing great. Very energetic, happy boy.
  • I just wanted to thank you for posting this!
  • Happy to post it. I hope it helps people feel more positive about their diagnosis. :)
  • You are awesome. I know lots of kids with down syndrome through friends and work, and you are so right. Having a child with down syndrome has so many up sides. It is not all doom and gloom (I think some doctors always say worse case scenarios). I am so glad you have such personal experience to help other moms through it.

I worked with kids with downs when I was a teenager. They were so wonderful and loving and sweet. Every one of them lit up a room when she walked in.
  • @Mumtobe+4 I have seen that a few times already, but it makes me cry everytime. I wish everyone could experience the love and light these people bring to my life.
Whenever someone tells me they're 'sorry to hear that' after learning Felix diagnosis, I tell them I'm sorry that they've never experienced that kind of love. I'm not sorry for my brother, I could never be. I'm down as his guardian if anything should ever happen to my parents, and them choosing me for that was the greatest honour and privilege :)

@indibidule that's what so many of us involved in the DS community call it haha, nothing 'down' about it.

Thank you all for reacting positively to this x
  • Saw this on Facebook this morning:
  • @PaManda1228 I will PM you with some details. Can I ask where you're from? Just so I have an idea of where your support network would be based xx
Just moving some furniture at the moment, but I'll contact you as soon as I can! And do you have Facebook? Mum runs a public page about life with Felix if you wanted a lurk ;) it is:

I'll leave you with a photo of my brother Felix, aged four, at his friends party last week xo

You may also find this blog helpful, she writes about a lot of different things but I was on a BMB with her 2 years ago when she found out her baby had Down Syndrome too, and she has written a lot of posts about it.

  • Holy Moley @StephPegasus that blog is great and that little boy is so bloody adorable!
  • This post is amazing! This is my first time commenting on anything. We had some issues with our first scan. End of the day, our results were less than 1% chance of having a child with "up syndrome" (I like that name better)... Any percent is scary when it's your kid. We have our anatomy scan in 1 week. After that, they will be able to tell us more and I'll decide if I want to do further testing. This has made me feel so much better about everything. Thank you for posting this!!
  • @PaManda1228 There is a wonderful blog I read called Enjoying the Small Things that might be of help to you.  The author of the blog has three children and her middle child has down's syndrome.  It's an absolutely awesome blog and she talks about their journey with down's syndrome a lot.  Her little girl who has down's syndrome is beautiful and seems very happy.  Hugs to you!

  • The people I know with up syndrome are some of the sweetest and most caring people I have ever met. My sister has special needs and she has taught me more about love and empathy than anything else. Special people truly are a blessing.
  • My cousin Albie has Downs, and there is no possible way you can't smile when he walks into the room. He is so precious and sweet. My poor husband thought if they told us our daughter has Down syndrome (which she doesn't) that they make me have an abortion, that we didn't have a choice. He was so nervous.
