Post bottle spit up?

DS is great eater and takes four to five ounces per feeding at only almost six weeks. Wasn't having any trouble with spit up and now he spits up after almost every feeding. Not much, but it is consistent. I take his hunger cues from him so I know it's not over feeding, but I was wondering if I'm being too quick to assume it's reflux and if any other moms have any advice! Thanks!

Re: Post bottle spit up?

  • Is he fussy before eating or during? My DS has the same problem with spitting up (actually it's more like projectile spit up) but usually only around dinner time. I asked my doctor about it and he said it was probably because he was taking in a lot of air, either by eating or fussing around on the breast. They say 6-8 weeks is the peak time for fussiness, so I'm hoping it goes away soon

  • @courtneylevesque it's not projectile thank god lol it just makes me concerned! He only fusses when I take the bottle away to burp him haha
  • My DD had lots of spit up after almost every feed and my GP said it was reflux and prescribed infant Gaviscon (oral powder). We've had no spit up at all since using it
  • Try offering a pacifier. Cut back an ounce an offer a paci sometimes it can take them a minute for their stomach to tell their brain they are full so he might be over eating just a little.
  • Make sure you burp him really well. Our LO spits up a lot but it's not projectile. When I called my doctor they said if she starts to arch her back then we would look into it possibly being reflux buT they said most likely she's just a happy spitter!
