I don't think I should really be concerned but how much does the average pregnant woman exercise? Today, just at work, I walked over 9 miles. On the usual work day I walk 6 miles. It's probably good for me.
I think as long as you maintain a health blood pressure and aren't over doing it your fine. It might be too much when you get bigger and start swelling.
From everything I've read, it all depends on how active you were before you got pregnant. If you were running marathons before, you can probably keep doing that. It sounds like you're fine with walking, even 9 miles. Now if you were speed walking on a treadmill at an incline of 15, you might want to watch it. When you're doing aerobic type exercise, I've seen things suggesting you keep an eye on your heart rate & temperature, as well as your breath. Warm up, cool down, drink lots of water & obviously stop if you feel unusual pains.
It definitely depends on your activity level before getting pregnant. I know some women who were crossfit junkies prior to pregnancy adn kept it up all through pregnancy. That would be way too much for me while pregnant. However, I worked out a solid 3-4 times a week for an hour a day so that's good for me. For a friend of mine who is pregnant, THAT would be too much for her since she only walked and did light cardio before getting pregnant.
Also listen to your body!!! Don't be like "eh I have another mile to go" if your body says slow down or take a break, then do it! It's important to allow your body the ability to rest and recoup.
That's awesome, I haven't been able to exercise at all (too sick, too tired). I was pretty active before, so I hope to get some energy back. Enjoy being able to work out!
Don't get too hot and listen to your body so you don't overdo it. It's crazy when nesting starts up, too. I decided, at 7 or 8 mos pregnant last time, that it was a great idea for me to move the Queen bed in what would be DD's room so that I could see what it would look like on a different wall. This is wooden frame, Queen mattress and box spring, nothing on wheels. My tummy hurt so bad the next day I think I strained some tummy muscles or something. I was fine, but yeah, I shouldn't have done that.
I work outside in Florida so it's hard to stay cool. I like my job but I think it's becoming too much not being able to sit and walking constantly in 90+ degree weather but I have to work.
I used to do weight training before I became pregnant and stopped as I was very sick and no energy , now that I'm in my 2nd tri I have my energy back but I'm still not eating properly and my SO is a personal trainer told me I need to be taking in more calories before I go back to the gym ,I was just wonderin any mammas doing weight training and squats ? I'm unsure of what is safe and unsafe when I do go back ?
My husband is a personal trainer, i had to take a long break due to injuries i am now back at it this last few weeks we are just taking it slow and will be building up again. I am not pushing it, have started with park workouts and about to get back at the gym doing squats, deadflifts, dips, shoulder press etc. I do pullups and pushups at home. Its all about listening to the body and keeping in control of breathing for me.
That makes no sense, its important to practice squats ready for the birth because thats the best position. My midwife knows i do them and was happy to hear that.
My doc. But this was also in the beginning of my pregnancy after I'd had some bleeding so maybe that had something to do with it. (and yes weight-bearing, like I'd normally do at the gym)
My guess it was the bleeding. I do squats all the time. Did pump today. Just had to reduce my weight on the bar a little. I'm losing strength to hold my lower abs tight to protect my back.
Eta- I think it's partially bc I'm on baby 2 and have diastasis recti.
Re: How much exercise is too much?
It's all about what your body is used to.
Jamie
Squats are great for your pelvic floor, which is important in both pregnancy and delivery.
