Good luck and tell us how it goes!! I need encouragement lol
  • Omg yes please update us! I am planning on flying and moving with our 2 month old and extremely anxious small 3 yo dog (who broke out of her carrier and was whining and struggling in her carrier the last time I flew despite taking Benadryl) in a couple weeks. So I'm scared....
  • So the airport 4+ hour wait was pretty brutal - they were both fussy and overtired since they were off their usual schedule. However, DS fell asleep before we even boarded the plane, drank a little formula during takeoff & was out like a light during the whole rest of the flight. I wanted to make sure they were either sucking on their pacifiers or a bottle during takeoff (and landing if necessary - but it wasn't) so the sucking motion would help counteract the effects of the altitude change. DD was really fussy after we boarded before takeoff. Tried everything I could think of to soothe her and all she ended up wanting was to be out of her car seat & in my lap. We flew Southwest and the flight wasn't full so they let us bring car seats aboard and put them in the seats next to us even though we hadn't paid for them and were planning on two lap children. Ended up being great for DS - he stayed in his car seat for the whole 1.5 hour flight. Not so much for DD. Oh and security was painful to get through. Very painful. Too much stuff and too few hands. But the kids behaved reasonably well and I'm glad we got the first one out of the way!

If they hadn't let you set the seats next to you, do you need to baggage check them or can they count as an overhead...? Who exactly let you, like when did you find out the flight wasn't full and they were going to let you do that.?
We might fly with southwest and I was wondering how all that works
  • With Southwest, all stroller and car seats (incl base) are free to check, either at the ticket counter or at the gate. They don't count towards your two free checked bags, which is nice. The lady at the gate offered us the two extra seats for the car seats when we went to her to gate check the stroller and car seats. Our original plan was just to check everything at the ticket counter and wear the babies and carry diaper bags. But we had such a long wait at the airport we thought it best to keep the stroller with us and gate check it. After going through security though, I would've preferred to have stuck to the original plan. Not sure whether car seats fit in the overhead bin or not....I'd lean towards gate checking them since it's free. One less thing to get situated on the plane.
