Steroid shot for lung development...

I had my 1st round of steroids last night to help develop my lil girl's lungs. I'm having my 2nd round tonight. I was told within the next 2 weeks we would deliver.
After doing some research of my own, I've found articles saying doctors usually do this when they know premature delivery is imminent within 7 days.
Well 2 weeks and 7 days is a big difference in my mind right now given the circumstances. We were in a whirlwind last night and the staff was all over the place delivering 4 babies within minutes of each other so we couldn't ask many questions. Obviously, I'll ask more questions tonight when I go back in, but what is your take on it while I wait these last few hours to go in?

My take is they plan to deliver her in the 2 weeks like they told you, but they know that your condition could change at any time and so they are doing the smart thing and making sure to give you the shots now just in case. There would be no reason/benefit to wait to give you the shots but the shots can make all of the difference in the world if you deliver before those 2 weeks. I wouldn't read into it any more than that, I am sure that they are still planning on 2 weeks, but as we all know, the best laid plans sometimes don't mean shit.

Yes! What @Miz_Liz said. My SIL is 31 weeks and she is hospitalized now for high BP and possible Pre-E. They aren't planning to deliver but just in case, they gave her two steroid shots yesterday.

I agree with @Miz_Liz. They probably gave them to you on a "just in case" basis. What if baby needed to be delivered this weekend? Those steroid shots can make a huge difference.

2nd shot hurt worse than the 1st!!!! My pressures are still elevated and she's not as active as they'd like. The nurse said not to be surprised if I get a call tomorrow about delivering Monday bc that's usually how my dr handles these cases.

Lots of thoughts and prayers! I definitely agree with what @Miz_Liz said. I had my first round of steroid shots at 28 weeks with them planning for me to deliver at 34 weeks. I delivered at 31 weeks. So your doctor's are definitely doing the right thing!

My dr just called! He said he was sorry the nurse gave me a fright last night! He said as of right now he still wants to wait until the week of the 20th. So still 2 weeks! Phew!

After I had a bleeding incident this weekend from sex (was a ruptured vessel in the cervix but lost about 1/2 a cup to a cup of blood) they gave me a round of steroid shots. The on call gyno (I went to emerg) said he just wanted to do it INCASE of early delivery, but as far as I know I'm going to go full term. So I don't think it means anything.
