We have our full fetal survey this afternoon!! I am the craziest combination of nerves and excitement.
We are hoping to have a little reveal with our families tomorrow for the 4th!
Seriously praying for a perfectly healthy little bundle of joy and of course will be on cloud 9 whether it is a girl or a boy. I'm hoping baby is nice and cooperative so we can see gender well (I'm 18w 4d according to my last U.S. And 18w 2d according to my LMP)
Some people have told me that they have had to do the fetal survey in multiple sessions if baby isn't cooperative. Has anyone had this experience?
Re: Full Fetal Survey Today!!
My own 2 cents...I'm sure many will not like this but when I first started reading your thread I thought it was yet another post with no question or purpose other than drawing attention to yourself like we have seen a lot of people do lately, but I was wrong! Kudos to you for both expressing your excitement and actually asking fellow bumpers a question to which many people could benefit from the answer.
I know of people that have had to go back multiple times because they couldn't get the right measurement or the right view that was needed for the full scan. DS was always very cooperative so our scans were always short and sweet. This one was cooperative for the NT scan too so it looks like we're on the same path.
GL and FX for a healthy baby!
First of all, baby is so healthy and so active and looking nice and big hehe :-)
I had been told to drink 24 oz of water and not to empty my bladder. I think I may have even drank more than that but I didn't want to risk not having it be full enough. The tech said I did am great at following directions cause my bladder was super full and perfect to measure my cervix. Then she let me empty my bladder before starting the measurements. She then did about 1/2 of the measurements before telling me I should go empty my bladder again as it was filling back up. Got to find out position of placenta (front of my uterus) and while we were doing the scan baby had feet down and was facing my spine.
As soon as I emptied my bladder again baby started moving all around, as if happy to have more space again. It was beautiful seeing the little spine, organs, brain, and face.
She was easily able to take all the measurements although it did take a while with the little one wiggling about so much :-P Answering my own question it must be a case by case basis depending on baby's position and willingness to cooperate. Ha!
According to her estimated measurements of the belly and head (I believe those are the two they use to estimate the weight) little love's approximate weight was between 10 and 11 ounces.
AND....WE'RE HAVING A BOY :-D
Hope this post is helpful to others wondering a little more about what the scan is like.
