So i read that for BF to be less painful, you need the correct size flange. Would I be crazy to try the pump out now to make sure everything fits? What's the best way for a FTM to prepare herself in this department
I thought about that too, but wanted to wait until 38 weeks since nipple stimulation can possibly induce labor. We have a lacation room at our hospital so I think I'll let them fit me.
The pump company told me supposedly the size they give with the pump work for most people. I would guess when I'm asking about buying more they would've taken advantage but since they didn't I'm going to wait to see if I have an issue especially in these days of overnight shipping.
And yes @cosplaymom is right, it's all about your nipple not making contact on the sides in the tube as you pump than cup size. I have large nipples but not really large breasts.
You can possibly induce labor with nipple stimulation since it releases oxytocin (the all natural pitocin) I would stay away from that. There are lactation consultants there to show you how to use and size things for you.
You can test the size without actually turning on the pump. Just hold it up to yourself to see it fits. The nurses at the hospital can help tell you if you need a larger/ smaller size. It's not about your breast size- it's about the shape and size of your nipples.
Re: BF Pump Question
Size makes a world of a difference!!!!
The breastshield size has nothing to do with your breast size (I'm a 36E), it has to do with the size of your nipples.
