Hi ladies!
Last week at my 31 week appointment the baby's heart rate was 178. My doctor said this was high for third trimester (normal is 110-160) and sent me to get an ultrasound to make sure everything was ok. Everything looked good and heart rate dropped some to 170 but still too high for her comfort. I was then sent to labor and delivery for monitoring. As soon as they hooked me up to the monitors, his heart rate was down to the 140s-160s. I was there for 3 hours and it stayed down the whole time. Doctor sent me home and said to come back this week (yesterday). As soon as I got there, they checked his heart rate and it was 176/177. So my doctor came in and suggested we bring in a doctor from Maternal-Fetal Medicine. This of course made me extra nervous! Basically her concern was that they missed something during the anatomy scan and there is something wrong with his heart. The MFM doctor decided not to see me yesterday and had me return to my normal doctor today and then they would decide what to do. Went back first thing this morning and his heart rate hovered around 160. She called the MFM doctor and he said, based off of the ultrasounds my doctor done and my pregnancy up until this point, he doesn't think there is anything wrong with the baby. He just thinks the baby has a high baseline heart rate. I now have to go to the doctor twice a week for them to check the heart rate but according to my doctor they don't think anything is wrong. She repeatedly wanted to have the MFM doctor take a look and do an anatomy scan but he kept saying it was nothing to worry about, without meeting me, looking at an ultrasound, or even listening to the heart beat himself. I'm worried this is being brushed off by the MFM doctor. Has anyone ever experienced this? Keep in mind, he has technically had a high heart rate from the beginning of my pregnancy. It started in the 180s and slowly dropped as the pregnancy progressed. This is my second pregnancy and by this point with my first, his heart rate was in the 140s!
