Fireworks are dangerous to fetuses!!!

I just wanted to warn everyone that fireworks may be dangerous to our babies.

A coworker yesterday asked about my Fourth of July plans and I told her that hubby and I are going to see fireworks at a nearby lake. She told me that it was a really bad idea and could hurt my babies ears. She explained that when you are under water sounds are amplified. And since baby is in amniotic fluid, I should probably hold a pillow over my stomach.

I asked her if putting an ear plug in my belly button would help him at all =))

So not that this required its own thread or anything, but just had to share. Have a Happy July 4th weekend if your state side and remember to protect all unborn children's ears!!!

My sister in law went to a nascar race with her husband and she asked her doctor before she went if the loud cars would hurt the baby...he looked at her and was like...no.....
  • This is hilarious. I will say though, I felt one of my babies jump when a very loud fire alarm went off in the hotel I was staying in over the weekend. I think it was just the sudden noise (or me jumping out of bed!) that jolted him. Maybe I should've immediately covered my belly with a pillow ;)

  • Shes nuts. I asked my dr (at my mother's insistance) about going to the NHRA nationals next week. He said that noises won't hurt the babys ears, they are more muffled from all the skin and organs surrounding the baby than anything. The dr said that my ears would be bothered, not the babys.
  • Crap. Mind is already deaf. We went to a concert when I was 3-4 months pregnant and I was by the speaker.

    Oops.
  • Best post EVER!!!!!
  • I think one ear plug in the belly button and another in the cervix should do the trick. ;)
  • Thank you for posting this and the many halarious comments. I'm dying over here. Needed this laugh! Sounds like something my former mother in law would say lol.
  • I once had someone recommend I put headphones on my stomach to muffle sounds at a concert for baby... Right... Because baby's head is the size of my entire stomach and he has one ear on either side... I'm glad we can all laugh at this instead of spreading the uneducated paranoia! It makes me wonder what other crazy pregnancy safety rumours we could start. Like that if you sit for longer than 20 minutes at a time, your baby will be born with his legs permanently crossed.
