I'm on my rescue inhaler (albuteral) and a controller (pulmicort) im actually seeing a specialist for it because my OB was scared I may have a bad asthma attack. There are only a few prescriptions that are allowed during pregnancy so if your doctor prescribed them I would think they would know what's best for you. Some women with asthma suffer more during pregnancy and some don't see a change in their asthma attacks.
It's better to control it than to cut off that air supply to your baby.
My advice is if you're using your rescue inhaler more than 3x a day you should see a specialist to get on meds to control it.
I have asthma also and in the first trimester I felt like my asthma was getting a worse, but now nearing the 2nd, it seems to be okay. I still use my long-term inhaler 2 times daily and then my rescue maybe once or twice (depending on allergies!!). My doctor told me any recommended dosage of inhalers is safe during pregnancy. I would try not to worry--like @cherish1986 said, it's far better to get oxygen to you and your baby than not! Trust your doctor, they know what is best;)
My asthma always gets worse when pregnant. I am on two controller inhalers and I take my rescue inhaler daily. I hate the way prednisone makes me feel! Definitely take it in the morning as it can make you jittery and suffer from sleeplessness. Hopefully you won't need to be on it long.
Thanks I was on pulmicort and had to get a stronger inhaler to get me back on track they even gave me predisone! All these meds just make me nervous!!!!
I'm 22 weeks and on 5 days of prednisone for a bad flare up as well. It is extremely safe during pregnancy, flare ups are NOT safe on the other hand because your blood oxygen going down means less oxygen to the baby. My doctor has assured me that no asthma medicine poses any near risk compared to asthma itself. some women with chronic conditions are on prednisone every single day of their pregnancies. Good luck and may you breathe easy.
