Hi Ladies!
I was hoping to get some perspective on my last ultrasound, at 29 weeks. We had gone in for an elective 3D ultrasound so otherwise wouldn't even have had one, but while there the tech gave us an abdominal measurement that was in the 3rd percentile, and head circumference below the 2nd percentile. Femur length was normal and overall weight was 33rd percentile, which wouldn't be too surprising as both my husband and I are smaller framed. We do have an 18 month old daughter who, when we look back at her birth records, had a smaller head size at around the 10th percentile.
So although my doctor told us we would wait and see, we of course have been nervous after hearing this. I know at my next ultrasound we will be checking to see if our baby's growth is progressing even if she measured at a smaller percentile than other babies at this stage. However, even though I don't expect to have a huge baby, my fundal measurement was spot on and my stomach has been actually feeling very heavy compared to when I was pregnant with my daughter. Also, during my ultrasound the tech kept complaining of how hot it was in the room, at one point opening the door and later saying she needed to leave because it was so hot. I wonder if she just wasn't feeling well and hurrying through things, especially as in my "google research" head circumference should be measured outside the white portion of the skull, whereas when I look at our photo the measurement line is slightly inside. It's harder to tell on the abdomen photo because it's dark, although I think I see some tissue outside of the lines and also remember the tech saying before she started measuring that she could see our baby's "fat rolls."
Would a baby with possible growth retardation have fat rolls?? Or, do any of you have similar experiences or insight? I know I've heard enough times about ultrasound measurements being inaccurate but I can't help but be worrying about it. I did pass my GD test this week, my iron levels were excellent, and I eat very healthily. I can feel baby move frequently throughout the day as well.
I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!!
Re: "Fat rolls" on ultrasound but 3rd percentile?
You said you had an elective 3D ultrasound was this done by a person with a medical degree at all? Bc if not wouldn't even care about what they said.
Personally 3rd kid never once had a growth scan and even if I did wouldn't put much stock into what I was being told.
