HSG- going to back to work the same day?

I apologize if this has been asked a lot, but "HSG" comes up so often in a search, I couldn't find an answer.

I expect the HSG to be uncomfortable, and I know that for some women, it's awful, but for some, it's not so bad.

If you had an awful experience, were you able to recover and maybe go back to work after an hour or so? Or do I need to be prepared to curl up on the couch with comfort food an a Netflix marathon? Do the cramps ease up, or do they continue?

I asked this question recently and got mostly reassuring answers. I went straight to work after the hsg. The procedure itself was painful but I felt pretty much fine quickly afterwards. I think it may be worse if you have blockages though, which I didnt.

Advil helps if you take it an hour before the procedure. I took the day off and was glad just to curl up on the couch. I could have gone back to work, but I'm a teacher so I'm on my feet all day. I was crampy after the procedure, but I had no blockage either so wasn't too bad. Hope your test goes well.

I've had two HSG's one was awful and the other was pain free. Both times I could have gone back to work shortly after, but I didn't. I had mild period-like cramps after the first one. Be sure to bring super absorbent pads, as the dye will leak out... and you shouldn't use a tampon after it.

I've also had two with one uncomfortable and the other painless. I took a Motrin 400 before and would have been fine to return to work shortly after.

Thanks so much, y'all! The HSG got scheduled on my busiest work day. I can stand to lose a few hours from the day, but not the whole afternoon/evening!

I think I had one of the rare occurrences that I would say DO NOT go back to work that day. I had a horrible experience. My pain was so bad my SO wanted to take me to the hospital. And I consider myself someone who has a very high Threshold for pain . But, from what I have read that is not usually the case. Good luck!

It turned out to be a pretty painful experience for me. The dye got stuck in the left tube (but once I rolled and they pushed more, it went through). So maybe a spasm, maybe some gunk got flushed out. Either way, good news, but it hurt like I was being stabbed on the inside!

The pain resolved when it was over, and it was just crampy the rest of the day. I was okay going back to work... physically. Emotionally, I was a bit of a mess. I felt like a crybaby, but it just hurt so much! I was glad to get home.

All in all, I'm glad it's done, glad for the results, and way way glad to put it all behind me!
