Anyone else not taking birth control post baby?

I've decided not to take the pill or have an IUD placed. I don't want to put anything foreign in my body. My husband and I have used the "pull-out" method for years and it's always worked. When we were ready to have a baby we just let it happen. I know that you are more fertile after baby. That being said condoms are probably a wise choice. What's everyone else's opinion on the topic?

Re: Anyone else not taking birth control post baby?

  • I was on the pill for 10 years before having DD. about 6 months before we planned on trying I was getting terrible headaches and dizzy spells after lots of tests we discovered it was my body reacting to years on the pill. My doctor has strongly advised to never use the pill again so my DH and I have decided we will try to make condoms work.

  • I personally couldn't do two under one year of age... I would definitely recommend condoms for a while!!
  • I'll be using condoms for a few reasons. Birth control pills masked serious infertility symptoms in me for years, causing me surgery and a very long difficult road to conception. So knowing all the damage they did, I'm not open to using them again.
  • I had no sex drive, felt awful and had awful periods while on BC. I took the mini pill after DD1 and felt horrendous.

I didn't get my period for 16 months after DD1 so we decided to use commons after our second (got my period 17 months after.) My drive was better, my body felt better. I was glad I didn't take anything.

Now, DH is getting a vasectomy so we'll use condoms until then.

  • H and I used pull put method for years with no problems or scares. When we started trying to get pregnant it only took a little over a month so it was effective for us. But that being said, we absolutely could not afford another child right now so I'm not taking any risks and am using hormonal BC.
  • I'm just like you. We used the pullout method until we wanted a baby. Years ago I was on the pill and hated my mood swings while on it. If we had another baby unplanned I'd be a mess for a while but we'd handle it.

We also used the pull out method and we're back to doing that now, i know it's not bullet proof but i don't want to introduce anything to my body and my husband is 200% against condoms!

Chances of getting pregnant before getting your period are low and after that i'll just try to avoid mid cycle days when i should be ovulating and we'll see what happens, i discussed this with my doctor and she supported this decision.

So basically my birth control is pulling out and a lot of prayer lol
  • I was on the pill for nearly 15 years (age 15-28) and decided it was simply long enough. We practiced pull-out before we started trying, then got pregnant after 2 months of trying. I have my 6 weeks appt tomorrow and plan on discussing it with my Dr. We'll likely just go back to pulling out. There is some risk (I definitely don't want to be preggers again anytime soon!), but I also don't really want to be on BC again.

  • I've never been on birth control (besides a trial period of 3 months when I was 19, but it was miserable, worst periods of my life) we always used condoms until we decided we wanted a baby it just wasn't the right time yet so we went to the pull out method and then once the timing was right we got pregnant in a month. It's worked for us and we had been married for 5 years before getting pregnant. Together for 2 years before that. So I don't see why our previous method won't work again for us. They did send me home with the mini pill though because they basically forced something on me and that gave me the option of using it or not.

Same. I hated taking BC. It made me gain weight and I had trouble remembering to take it. I only lasted a month when I was a teenager.

I'm not a fan of condoms and either is my husband.

I got pregnant with the pull out method while losing my virginity. I'm extremely jealous of you ladies... BF and I both really hate condoms, and I've never been on any kind of BC, but I can't risk two under 1 while I'm under 20! I think I'll be doubling up. Even that's not fool proof, but I CANNOT have another right now.

We plan to do pull out and I will track my fertile days and completely avoid sex around that time. I haven't been on BC in years bc I hated the way it made me feel and I just don't like taking medications of any kind. Not to mention when I took it back in college my boobs got huge and I can't even imagine going up yet another cup size right now!!

I will not go on birth control ever again in my life. I did 1 time for about a year (prior I had regular cycles) and once I stopped I didn't get a cycle for 8 months and never had a regular cycle again. Which then cost thousands in fertility treatments. We will be using good old condoms!

I am sorry this happened to you! The pull out method is really based on your partners sexual experience with knowing his own body and when to pull out. Even a second late is too late, unfortunately! But, with that said, practice makes perfect!
  • Second time Breastfeeding mamas, how long did it take for you to get your period after babe was born?
  • We didn't use any birth control after our first or second child and decided to just let nature take its course. I exclusively breastfed, which I know isn't birth control and you don't know when you'll ovulate for the first time, but we wanted 3 kids and were happy to just let it happen. We ended up with 2 yrs 2 months between the first two and then 2 1/2 yrs between #2 & #3. Now I'm on the mini pill and DH is having a consultation for a vasectomy. We're for sure done.

Also, it took me 9 months to get my period after baby #1 and 10 months after baby #2.
  • I was horrible with the pill thus my first LO 3yrs ago, I don't have a doc nor want to go through the trouble of getting an IUD. My husband is horrible at pulling out so the condom life for me.
  • I haven't been able to take birth control for years. Every time my doc put me on one I would end up having my period the whole time I was taking the pills. And once I stopped taking them I'd go back to a regular cycle and it only last 4 to 5 days. I'd take that any day over having my period for weeks at a time and then a week break. My bf and I used pull out and well now I have a baby who is a month old haha. Not that I'm complaining wouldn't change him for the world. But definitely can not do 2 babies right now. So condoms for us it is.
  • I was on the pill for almost 3 years and found it altered my mood like crazy. I was becoming depressed and attributed it to that. After a particularly bad evening when suicide became a real thought, DH said I wasn't taking it anymore. We used condoms for the next 6 months until we decided to start TTC. We will be going back to using condoms until we want to try for a second LO. Then DH will get a vasectomy after that.
  • Pull n' pray for me too! Worked for 3 years and got pregnant on first month of trying. Don't like birth control and have heard horror stories about iuds. I also see commercials all the time about lawsuits for various birth controls so that freaks me out!
  • I won't be using BC, I was on it for a month when I was 17 and it was so horrible I swore it off for good!
My fiancé and I used condoms for a while then decided to use the Pull Out Method, which worked for a long time until one miscalculation which gave us our LO! :)

So no BC for me, probably going to continue using condoms and the PO method, praying it works for at least another 2 years!
  • My SO and I played a little baby making roulette before I got pregnant with our LO. We both wanted a baby but didn't want to obsess over getting pregnant so we just let nature take its course. It took us about 6 months to conceive.
I've never taken birth control and an IUD does not seem appealing whatsoever so we bought condoms and we hate using them so we're going with the POP method .. After we finish the box of condoms since they do cost money and will collect dust for an eternity.
  • I take the pill again and OMG I can not stay consistent in taking it.... I forget every other dang day now...

Ditto! We had our first baby 17 months ago, we did pull out method until we wanted to try again, first month of trying we got preggo and I had my Second baby 6 weeks ago. Now, we want to be super ultra careful as to not have a 3rd this close to the other two. But like you I don't like how BC makes me feel, and I don't want something foreign inside me! So pull out it is and pray to the Lord we don't get pregnant for a little while!!!!! My poor body needs a break lol.
  • I was on the pill for 5 years and then it took us almost 2 years to get pregnant and even then, I was on clomid for 3 cycles because I don't ovulate regularly. They suspected PCOS, but now they are saying no, so who knows. We aren't using anything except the, "Pump and Pray" method. (My uncle's term! LoL) We plan to start trying when LO#1 is a year old as it took us almost 2 years for her, we would like the kids to be 2-3 years apart in age.
  • I was on the nuva ring for 8 years and it took us 3 years to finally conceive. I don't think it's a coincidence and I don't plan on getting back on any hormonal birth control, or implanting anything into my body (I've heard too many horror stories). Are diaphragms still a thing lol or is that so 1940?
