new mattress

My husband and I are going to try to get a new mattress soon... he wants to get one this weekend during the fourth of July sales. My worry is my water breaking in the middle of the night all over our brand new mattress lol. What's a good way to protect the mattress that won't be hot, make noise when I move, or cost too much? Thanks!

Re: new mattress

  • Maybe just put a towel under the sheet

  • Or a puppy pad. Ha!

  • We got a new mattress earlier this year from sleep country, we have a 25 year warranty but part of it is that we have to keep a mattress cover on it. Had an incident with bleeding tho last weekend and the cover worked like a charm!!
  • The mattress cover isn't hot or anything either it's a good fabric, they threw it in for free with the purchase
  • Definitely recommend a mattress cover, we have a Sleep Tite brand that was given to us with the purchase of our mattress.

For extra protection with my first I bought this pee pad from Amazon, which is also now used on my daughter's bed as we're potty training.

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies!! I wanted to wait until baby is here, but honestly a new mattress is so overdue!! We've been sleeping on a full sized mattress since getting married almost five years ago, and a queen is going to be such an improvement!! :)
  • We also have a waterproof cover! We got it for that very reason! They're not "plasticy" and crinkly/loud anymore unless you get a really cheap one. I think we paid about $40 or $50 for our king size one from target! We were looking at bed bath and beyond but target had the same stuff for less!
  • We bought the cover from the mattress store that also acts as a warranty. If my water broke and the cover didn't protect the mattress then they will replace the mattress for free.

We got a great mattress cover at Walmart for $25 I think, it's breathable, not hot, doesn't make noise and waterproof.
  • We bought a vinyl mattress cover that zippers completely around the mattress to seal out liquids. It was like $15.00 at Bed Bath and Beyond. We have it under a mattress pad and our sheets, so there's no added heat, no noise. I wasn't about to trust out expensive mattress to just a waterproof mattress pad. Even though my water didn't break in bed with DD1, after seeing the amount of fluid that gushed out, there's no way just a fabric waterproof mattress pad would have protected it!

  • If you're really worried about it, you could go ahead and buy it during the sale but wait until after the baby is born to sleep on it.
