  • The baby might just be lazy right now

  • I didn't feel mine move until 24+ weeks. Not sure exactly when. I was 24 weeks when I went to NYC and didn't feel him yet, but when he changed positions and put new pressure in a new spot, I could feel that, but not him moving to get there. I just felt that for several weeks. At my cousin's wedding, maybe 32 weeks, I had only been feeling him for a short time. The reason I remember this is because for the longest time it was almost like my mom didn't believe that I wasn't feeling him. But at the wedding, my cousin asked if she could feel the baby, and I said she probably wouldn't feel much, then my mom jumped in and explained why.

I had an anterior placenta. It was between DS and my abdomen, which means it got in the way of feeling his movements. I couldn't feel him until he was much bigger and much stronger. He wasn't lazy. Whenever I had an ultra sound, I could see him moving around like crazy. I just couldn't feel it. If you've had an ultrasound already, ask your doctor about the placement of your placenta.

That makes sense. When I went I was told that my placenta was set back, so I am assuming that I have the same thing. Thanks for your response!
  • You're welcome.  I don't know what the term "set back" means.  But people didn't believe me (esp my mom) when I kept saying that I could not feel him move, because I was quite far along.  Even when I felt him, I didn't feel it that much, even near the end.  I never saw a foot (or hand or anything distinguishable) move across my belly like friends did.
  • Is this your first child? It's possible that you just haven't distinguished between baby's movements and digestion. I'm 18 weeks and have an anterior placenta, but I still feel DD about once a day when she is either down low or pushing to one side. With DS, I had a posterior placenta but he was frank breech, so The only body part I could distinguish was his head. He would stretch and it felt like he was going to burst out.
  • This is my first baby and I have an anterior placenta. First time I felt a flutter was 17 weeks but at that point I wasn't sure if it was him or not. I've felt him regularly every day since 19 weeks.
  • I'm a FTM and started feeling irregular movement around 18-19 weeks. Now I'm 23 1/2 and I feel him daily and frequently. However, my sister never, truly never felt her son. She told her docs and they did regular scans because of it- but baby was SO active I think she couldn't tell. He's now 10 and spunky as ever. Always ask doc though. It's what they're there for and it will put your mind at ease.

At my 18 week appt doc told me I may not feel the baby kick before my next appt (22 weeks) so I wouldn't sweat it!
  • I wouldn't be concerned. Some women don't feel movement until 26 weeks. I'm 22 weeks and started feeling earlier last month but this is my 2nd pregnancy. Sometimes you feel them earlier with your 2nd pregnancy. If this is your first it feels like little fluttering similar to muscle spasms until baby gets bigger. Baby might also be moving at night time and you just don't know it yet. I only started feeling him during the day recently but it'd usually at night.
  • I have an anterior placenta and I didn't feel the baby move until after 20 weeks. Even now, I only feel the baby if I lay on my stomach, and I try not to do that often.
  • For gods sake call your OB!!!
  • I have an anterior placenta too, I was told at my last ultrasound when we found our baby's gender. I am now 19 weeks and still haven't felt her move. My ob said I may not feel her until 23-26 weeks. I am looking forward to feeling her move so hoping I start feeling something soon. Hopefully you will too, but if you're worried I would encourage you to speak to your ob.
