DIY Maternity Jeans

Hey there! 14 weeks here :) and although my jeans still fit (with a hair-tie) I want to prepare for the maternity jeans. Because I've never sewed in my life, and scared of messing up my jeans..does anyone know of a place/website who can do this for you?

Re: DIY Maternity Jeans

  • Check out YouTube and Pinterest for tutorials.

Or just get a belly band to wear over your jeans. Belly belts work well too.

Why don't you want to invest in a pair of actual maternity jeans?

  • Well, it's something I would wear for a few months and I rather not spend so much money when I kinda already have the essentials :)
On top of that, I tried on some maternity jeans yesterday from Target, and the leg was so loose on me and made my butt look like it deflated lol
  • I hear you! I'm just going to get a belly band. I love my jeans and they fit just fine except for the waist.

But they are soooooooooooo comfortable. I never want to go back to regular jeans again. I'm thinking I might just stay fat so I can keep wearing them after lol
  • Does it make you feel any better to know that you probably won't be out of maternity clothing for quite some time after you give birth?

For one thing, it takes time for the uterus to shrink. When it does, it's unlikely your old pants will fit for awhile either because you just DO gain bulk in the middle no matter how quickly you take off the baby weight.

Your breasts also stay engorged the entire time you are breastfeeding (if you plan to).

It really isn't just 9 months..

Comfort is #1 for me because i have a very weird issue with tight clothing. So I bought maternity clothing as soon as i needed it. But i bought things that will work after pregnancy too. Maternity leggings, under-belly pants and empire waist, stretchy dresses that will work for maternity or otherwise.
  • Motherhood maternity! I bought a couple pairs of petite maternity from there and they are amazing! Not baggy like some others and multiple people have made comments about how atleast you don't have to wear maternity not knowing I am.
  • If you don't want to spend a bunch of money, hit up second-hand stores. I went to Goodwill and scored a few pairs of maternity jeans, good ones that fit nicely, for about $4-5 each.
  • H&M also have a great maternity section, their jeans are amazing and quite reasonably priced.
  • Luckily, we're due in December :) so I can hide my baby fat under all those warm clothes! Thanks for all the advice, girls!! I will definitely look at thrift stores, Motherhood, and H&M
