Getting baby into crib

my DD is three months old and about two weeks ago she graduated from her bassinet to a crib. Every time I lay her down for the night in the crib she will wake up at around one or two and non stop cry. As soon as I lay her on her newborn lounger on my bed, she stops crying immediately. I tried to put her back in the crib once she falls asleep but she just wakes herself up minutes later crying until I put her back in bed with me. I've tried feeding her so she gets milk drunk but that hasn't worked either. I don't want her to be dependent on me for sleep and I'm also afraid of smothering her at night. I can't sleep with her on my bed anymore. Has anyone else had a transition problem. And if so, how did you solve it?

Re: Getting baby into crib

  • I've heard that some people will sleep on a pillow case for about a week and put it in the crib with the baby. It'll have your scent on it. But some moms would say it's not safe. Our LO has issues with her crib because the crib mattress is designed to be firmer than a normal mattress and she prefers her bouncy seat or swing. So good luck, I know what you're going through.

  • I have not tried putting my son in his crib at night. But I have started with naps. In the begining it was rough. Instead of just laying him down and letting him fall asleep on his own, I had to get him almost completely asleep and then lay him down. He would wake up alot and I would have to comfort him and get him back to sleep for his nap. We are now doing much better. I can just lay him down again and he will fall asleep on his own. He also will fall back asleep on his own if he wakes up. I'm hoping that since he is used to taking his naps in there, he will be okay with sleeping in his crib through the night when I am ready to move him.

    Good luck!
  • I took the advice of one nap a day in crib from one month old now at 3 months he takes almost every nap there. Just start slow until your baby is used to the crib.
  • It's great reading this thread. I tried getting my LO to nap in his crib for the first time today. He screamed the house down. Will keep trying again tomorrow. LO is two months old. No rush to get him to sleep there during the nights only nap times for now. Will see how it goes tomorrow. Fingers crossed

My son sleeps better on his side for naps and swaddled at night. He doesn't nap in his crib often but swaddled at night he sleeps great.
