Baby Bag For Hospital!

Hello, FTM here and being induced on Thurs. Yikes. Trying to get the baby's bag together but not entirely sure what I will need and want vs. what I think I need. Any advice? What are all of you bringing for baby? I don't want to be over packed or under packed! Help!

Re: Baby Bag For Hospital!

  • I'm brining a onesie and pants in newborn and also 0-3 months in case he's a chunky one. Also a hat, socks, and mittens. That's all for baby! Hopefully I'm not forgetting anything important.

  • I'm bringing 2 outfits (newborn and 0--3) and my hospital asks that you bring 4 blankets. They said that way if they need to put a little extra padding in the car seat for her they can use those blankets, plus one to cover her up for the ride home in.
  • Best advice I got was to bring throat lozenges! I got induced on Monday, and was a little overwhelmed, but when you're mouth-breathing through contractions for 12+ hours, those lozenges are the best thing you can possibly imagine.

You shouldn't need anything but the coming home outfit/blanket & car seat for babe. Chapstick and throat lozenges are a great suggestion as my experience with hospitals seems to be that they are dry. I also can't sleep without my pillow and I like to bring a real towel instead of the ones the hospital provides. There's a billion blog posts that have covered this if you're looking for something more in depth.

I am bringing my own swaddle blankets. I had a hard time with the hospital ones and my first daughter wouldn't sleep if she wasn't all rolled up.
  • our hospital specifically said to only bring an outfit to bring home and carseat. I'm assuming yours will provide all the dipes, etc you'll need and even send you home with a bunch.

I'm bringing along high waisted panties for csection. (Super sexy lol) first time around I didn't and panties were on the incision.

Edited to add breast pads. Last time I didn't have breast pads and leaked on clothes.
  • our weather has been very weird and inconsistent so I've packed 2 outfits. Onesie, pants, socks...stuff that I can layer up on or remove as needed. A full body onesie as well just in case. And a baby blanket made just for him.
  • Since it's 90-100° where I live what kind of going home outfit should I pack? Think he will need to be bundled up in long sleeves and hats or Would a onesie and shorts be okay?
  • Here's what's in my bag:

    For BABY:
    -Going home outfit
    -Gift for big sister :)

    For MOMMY:
-Travel size shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, q-tips
-Pain relieving spray and peri-wash bottle
    -Hemorrhoid cream
    -Nursing pads

    -2-3 nursing dresses/nighties
-Granny panties (if I'm not feeling the mesh ones)
    -Fuzzy socks
    -2-3 nursing bras
    -Cell phone charger

Things I will grab before we go:

  • My pediatrician recommended that I shouldn't put baby in a onesie for up to 10 days until the umbilical cord stump falls off... She said a diaper and a little tshirt (which is what my hospital puts them in too)....so I brought:

    A tshirt
    Some little shorts
    Swaddle blanket
    Sleep gown
Hospital cap (looks the same as the hospitals, but says his name on it)
    Mittens
I had already bought a cute going home onesie with a bow tie for him- so he will be wearing that for a little bit!
