Baby Practice Breathing :)

I love the baby practice breathing movements! There is very little that I actually enjoy about pregnancy. Most movement actually hurts, but that very light almost panting feeling is awesome and its physically visible now from the outside even :) I remember it very distinctly with my daughter too. Anyone else getting this yet? Mine started somewhere between 33 and 34 weeks with this one though I've heard not every mom ends up feeling it and sometimes not till later.

  • I had no idea this happened...

  • I don't think everyone ends up feeling up for some reason, but my doctor confirmed last time around that's what it is, and there are lots of articles on it if you search for it (and youtube videos :P). Its just such a cool feeling/sight. Its how they get the surfactant into their lungs so that they inflate properly when they are born. They quickly "breathe" amniotic fluid in and out.
  • This one shows it pretty well. It looks just like that! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5Ho-f6b2CM
  • That's crazy. First time hearing of this and I'm a stm.
  • This. Ive had this happen a bunch of times but had no idea what it was! I have seen ds breathing on an ultrasound. The tech showed me his belly moving up and down

  • So that's what that is!!! Amazing :x
  • I've seen it on the ultrasound but not on my own. I didn't know either that this even happens so when the tech said "ok good she is practicing breathing," I was surprised.
  • My doctor said it happens and he can see it too, it is amazing. I can't distinguish the movements either. Only definite thing I know is the hiccups ha

My belly moves all the time, but I can't tell what's going on in there. I can distinguish hiccups vs kicks/rolls but that's it.

I don't even know what hiccups feel like =(
This looks awesome. I wonder if it happened and I missed it =/
  • Well now everyone has something to hopefully look forward to :) Baby often gets hiccups shortly afterwards. I guess that's common too. Something about the practice breathing gives them hiccups. So nice to have constant movement for a little while that doesn't hurt at all! Also great to see them using their little lungs and getting ready :)
  • I've seen my LO practice breathe, completely amazing!
  • Babes had the hiccups for the first time the other night! It was so cool! These are the moments that make me forget about all the crappy parts of pregnancy! :)

  • That's what that is? I had no idea, how awesome. I thought maybe somehow I could see his heartbeat lol.

My baby does this a lot now, mostly at night. I'm 35 weeks btw and the first time I noticed it was maybe 2 weeks ago. Pregnancy is such an empowering experience and I love being able to witness these developments knowing that my body is working hard to get him to each stage of development!
  • I've noticed this happening before, but I never knew what it was!
  • This has happened to me a few times! We got to see her doing it on our ultrasound we had on Monday. She gets hiccups like 3x a day...
