I have a dr apt on Thursday I'm going to ask. I was curious because this other forum a girl found out she has herpes 1and2 from her blood work. I was thinking omg! How scary.
I was tested for both of them at my initial appointment (and tested negative). They repeated the same blood tests at the start of my Third Trimester (again negative). I was told at that appointment that I would not be getting any more blood work done until I'm in the hospital to deliver baby.
I only had the routine prenatal done, and it included hiv, hepatitis, MMR, varicella, and a swab for chlamydia and gonorrhea. They only tested that stuff once at 7w with blood type, blood count, etc. At 28w they rechecked my blood type and antibodies along with the glucose test. And near the end I'll have a swab for gr B strep. My dr went through each result to confirm negative or immune (by vaccination).
To my knowledge they test for anything that could potentially affect the baby weather during pregnancy or something that can be contracted via vaginal birth which includes a whole bunch of stds.
Those were includes in the 8 week blood work. They usually are to ensure the staff knows if any special treatment of specimens from the patient is needed.
They also test for varicella (chicken pox) immunity and blood type include Rh factor from what I remember. Next time you are in your OB office, you could ask for a copy of your lab results. Mind you, some offices will charge for this.
Re: When you get your initial blood test does anyone
Also HSV 1 (herpes 1) is very common. It causes cold sores/fever blisters so most people have been exposed to it at some point in their lives.
