C-sections

Repeat c-section question

I have a few questions more about before a repeat c-section. Since with DS I went through labor and then needed an emergency c-section for lack of heart rate. I was just wondering what happens at doctors visits before a repeat c-section. Do they differ from if you were going to have a vaginal birth? Do they still do internals for your last month of pregnancy? Also I am wondering, do they break your water before entering the OR? Thank you for the feedback!

I had a repeat, but up until a few days before was hoping for a vbac, but I don't see why the appointments leading up would be any different. If you are progressing early, they'll want to know to get you in the hospital sooner than scheduled. As to breaking your water, didn't happen for me. I'm not going to claim others wouldn't, but I don't know why they would before they're cutting you open. Only activity that happened down there before surgery was getting the catheter inserted.

  • Hey how are you ? I will be having my third repeat section my first daughter was breech and 32 weeks so she left a little odd scar on my uterus so I have to have c sections . With my second I went to the doctor as usual they did the group b just in case my water broke and they did not break my water before surgery. So they won't do that but you'll get your spinal and after that the catheter is inserted so you won't feel it and your section will begin . Hope this helps !
  • All my appointments were the same. I opted to have an internal just to see how dilated I was but didn't have to.

I had 2 cs's for 2 breech babies, so I can't compare to a vag birth. Doc visits are pretty standard except for the internal checks. They give you the option to have them done or not. I didn't want them. They will break your water when you are on the operating table ready to go.
  • My OB doesn't do internals for RCS. My first CS was an emergency as well. My RCS I actually went into labor a few days before & CS ended up morning before. They didn't do my cathedar until after my spinal was in. Water wasn't broke either.
  • All appointments were the same for me: both for primary birth and rcs.
