BFing and Migraines

I've had 3 migraines since LO was born 8 weeks ago! Normally I have 5-6 a year. Regulating hormones are to blame. I can't take Midrin like I used to since I'm BFing and it's considered a narcotic. Doctors office called in a Rx for Fioricet. Anyone else take this while BFing? Any effects on LO? Thanks in advance!

  • I don't have an answer to your question, but I too have had an increase in migraines. Kind of glad I'm not alone, even though it sucks.

  • I had a major problem with this. I have hereditary migraines and I usually take prescription medicine for them. My doctor gave me percocet for the headaches.
Interestingly enough, I never needed the medication after I made a discovery. Dehydration was to blame. I upped my water intake and the migraines vanished. .

@jadejag24 That is awesome! I wish water would help with mine. All I really drink is water and coffee. Mine are also hereditary but were initially triggered by birth control/hormones (same with mom and aunts). Had another one today and took the Fioricet. It took the edge off, not as effectively as a Midrin, but I know it's safer for LO. @OlgaN15 My doc said our hormones are to blame after pregnancy. I hope you find some relief! Our LOs need us...no time for migraines!!
  • I have been getting more migraines lately too! I am the same as you; I usually only get a handful a year and I've had three in the past 4 weeks. I get signs that a migraine is coming on, spotted vision, tingling etc. so when I feel these happening I actually take 2 Advil liquid gels and it usually makes them manageable and sometimes the symptoms don't go further than the signs. Maybe that's an alternative for you instead of the prescription, plus intake more water. I have also been finding that I am gettin them in the morning before I have eaten so I think food/blood sugar might be related.
  • Wow me too! I had no idea this could be related to bf. When i told doc he suggested i see neuroligist if they continue
