Incompetent cervix and previa???!! Help!

Just had my 14 week scan (having scans every 2 weeks now because of previous cervical surgeries). My cervix has shortened almost 1cm since my 8 week scan but not enough for a cerclage. Now I found out I have a complete anterior placenta previa. Anyone else have had experience with these? First time pregnancy and getting a little nervous now. No bleeding yet but lots of cramping. Any advice or similar situations I would love to hear!!! Dr said he wants me to get to at least 32 weeks but will have a early csection (maybe 36?).

Previa often moves as the uterus grows, usually they recheck closer to your DD. How many cm is your cervix now? My MFM will do preventive cerclage under 2.5cm. Are you seeing MFM? If not, I'd ask to be referred for another opinion. Good luck.

What is MFM? Sorry if that sounds dumb but all these abbreviations on here are getting so crazy! And I work on healthcare (you would think I knew all these!!! lol) right now it is measuring 3.2cm but four weeks ago it was 4 :/ my dr said with the previa he wouldn't want to do a cerclage unless he absolutely has to bx of its proximity to my placenta. I've had a LEEP, come knife cone and a D&C in the past. Feeling a little hopeless right now that I'll have a preterm baby but just want everything to be ok. Thanks for the info!!!

MFM is Maternal fetal medicine Dr, they usually do the cerclage. They are specialists in high risk pregnancies. 3.2cm is still a pretty long cervix. It is to my understanding that a cerclage is considered when cervix is <2.5cm. Don't hesitate to ask questions, there are many ladies here that are knew to being high risk. Unfortunately, this board can be a bit slow at times. With you history of cervical surgeries, it would be desirable to have a MFM doctor following your pregnancy. Most do not deliver, and you would see them in addition to your regular OB. Good luck!

Yeah I'm pretty sure there isn't an MFM in my town lol we have a high risk dr here but he does do deliveries but I wouldn't trust him for me or anyone I know to deliver. Not a fan of his surgical style. Anyways thanks again for the info!!! My OBGYN has done a number of cerclages (I've done the anesthesia for a few of his) and trust him no matter what. Crossing my fingers!!!

I have complete placenta previa. Found out at 18 weeks and it never shifted. My c-section is booked for 38 weeks.

Hi there! I have a short cervix and a 10cm subchorionic hematoma. My MFM does not like to do a cerclage with a hematoma or previa unless absolutely necessary due to the risks involved with cerclage.
Anything over 2.5 is considered ok - mine is currently at 2.3cm and I was prescribed progesterone to help maintain its length (which I'm happy to report has been working!). My doctor will not consider a cerclage on me unless it gets down to the extreme danger zone of 1cm or less, or if it's at 1.5cm and showing signs of funneling.
You may want to ask your doc for progesterone and monitor for a week or two before performing a cerclage??? My doc has seen many women with measurements under 2cm carry to term with just progesterone!
From what a hear a cerclage is not fun and carries quite a bit of risk.

Oh! Just saw that you were 14 weeks! Often times the placenta will move on its own by 20-25 weeks!
Also saw that you had LEEPs and cone biopsy (sorry pregnancy brain!) - many times the cervix can just be short from these procedures and not incompetent! So there is definitely hope. You still have a lot of time until the cut off time for cerclage (around 20-22 weeks) so your doc can monitor. Best of luck to you!! I'm 17 weeks and going through a similar thing!

Well had my cerclage Friday bc my cervix was measuring 2.5 and was funneling. On bedrest now till Monday but hoping I'll get the ok to work then. I'll be sure to ask about the progesterone. He did mention it initially when I got pregnant. On my post op appt my US showed still 2.4cm with funneling and my previa basically falling into the funneling portion. Keeping my fingers crossed 17+6 today

@gvgauthi Definitely will keep you in my thoughts! Hang in there mama! Funneling is definitely not a good sign but looks like they monitored you very closely!

Just an update: 18+4 today and have been on best rest since my cerclage on 6/19. Went to the dr today and cervix went from 2.5 to 4.5 cm and looks great! My previa has even moved out of the way. I couldn't be more ecstatic and I get to go back to work tmrw too :) hoping this helps you all going through this as well. Just hoping everything holds out till its time for her to come out (EDD 11/26). I was only on bed rest for a little over a week and want to commend those of you doing this for way longer... It takes a strong person to be so patient. Good luck to all of you and can't wait to hear your updates!!!
