Would this piss you off too?

Last week at my 38 week appointment I was sharing how uncomfortable i was and my midwife and I discussed stripping membranes at 39 week appointment, she said theyd check me and do the membranes then (im already 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced). I also asked her how long I'd have to go after my due date before she'd induce me (just incase). She said normally 41 but we could do a little earlier and we'd discuss in more detail and pick a date at my next appointment.

So I scheduled my 39 week appointment and didn't think to make sure it was with her BC at my Dr office you see everyone since you don't know who will be on call when you deliver. I assumed she wrote the stuff on the chart.

I just had my appointment and I had a different midwife who would not even check me, was not interested in making a plan if I didn't go into labor on my own, and said she couldn't believe the other midwife had said she'd strip my membranes at 39 weeks. So now I'm home, not even checked, and no info other than see ya next Monday.... I know stripping membranes doesn't always work but it was a little bit of hope that this baby would be out of me sooner rather than later, I'm exhausted of being pregnant and was looking forward to any kind of progress so I feel so let down.

  • It's disappointing, but it's not the end if the world! You're only 39 weeks... Baby isn't ready to come yet. Hang in there!

  • That's aggravating. The midwife should have wrote all you discussed in your chart. Where I go I see everyone too & they always chart everything we talk about...

I understand your frustration, but midwives are generally known for letting things happen naturally. I'm surprised your midwife talked about inducing you at all.
  • Sorry that happened. I can totally understand the frustration! Hang in there!
  • I would be a little upset that I got different information on what to do from different midwives.  Maybe those midwives have a power struggle with each other or something so they just like to disagree with each other for no reason.  I would give the midwife (the one who said that you would be getting your membranes stripped) a call and ask her what the deal is.

I would be irritated haha its unprofessional that they are not on the same page.
  • You're not alone! Went to my appointment this morning, to find out my normal midwife was away at a convention so I would be seeing one of her members on her team ( cool no problem, I'd rather the person I am familiar with but whatever) well come to find out she won't "check me" because she doesn't find in necessary. I know that it's not necessary, but just last week my midwife said that this week would be the first week we checked to see what my body was up to.
  • @keniialise I hate the "it's not necessary" excuse. Just check to check for my curiosity's sake!
  • If I request it then it is necessary since Im the one having the baby.
