Twin mom check in

So just wondering how all of us twin mommies are doing. Hope everyone is surviving!

1. When were you due and when were babies born?
2. Boys or girls?
3. Did you deliver vaginally or c-section?
4. If you're breastfeeding, how is that going?
5. Any older siblings? If so, how are they handling the new additions?
6. Anything else you'd like to add?! Any advice you've got for the rest of us?

Re: Twin mom check in

  • 1. When were you due and when were babies born? I was due June 15th. I delivered on June 3rd.

    2. Boys or girls? Fraternal girls. They do look very similar though. Lots of people have a hard time telling them apart.

    3. Did you deliver vaginally or c-section? I had a scheduled c-section at 38w2d. Baby A was breech and baby B was transverse.

    4. If you're breastfeeding, how is that going? It's going really well! We try to keep the twins on the same eating schedule, which makes things easier. Then the next feeding they get the other breast. I am pumping and getting a stash built up already. No need to supplement with any formula. I'm very lucky. However it seems like I have a baby attached to my boobs all the time. It's hard to go out and about, especially when they're cluster feeding.

    5. Any older siblings? If so, how are they handling the new additions? We have a son who will be 3 in September. He's a really big help. He's starting to get jealous and acts out a little bit. He's very motherly and wants to hold them all the time. He has to be right by their sides and hugging and kissing them. We have to remind him that they are very little and fragile so he has to be nice and not lay on them. Overall, He's a great and very proud big brother.

    6. Anything else you'd like to add?! Any advice you've got for the rest of us? Just hang in there. It will get easier the older they get. It's hard to rest when you have a toddler, but rest when you can. Enjoy those beautiful babies. Time goes by so fast!

  • 1. Due June 25th, born June 8th

    2. Fraternal girls! One has dark hair and one has light....super easy to tell them apart :)

    3. I was induced and delivered naturally. They were born 7 mins apart.

    4. Breastfeeding did not work! My milk too forever to come in and then they were not getting enough. I tri d pumping but I wouldn't even get an ounce after pumping for almost an hour. They do love formula, and I don't really feel bad. It's nice to get help and feed them both at once. When I was bf them, one was always crying for mill while I fed the other. This is just easier for me...though way more expensive!
    5. We have a 21 month old who loves them! Today is my first day alone with all three and she's have a few meltdowns but it's all very mild. She thinks it's funny when they spit up and tells me when they cry. She's a bit over loving and we have to tell her to be gentle (especially when rocking their car seats or bouncing the bouncy chair) but overall she's been a dream!

    6. Don't be afraid to put them down! I held my first a lot but found she started to hate being put down! Now with these girls I'm working on getting them
Used to the swing more or sleeping in their bed. I'm also loving when people bring me dinner. Freezer meals are saving my life right now!
  • 1. Due June 11th, delivered May 15th.
    2. Two girls, blonde and brunette, they look completely different!
    3. Induced and deliver vaginally, 1 hour apart
    4. Tried to bf and it was so time consuming because we had to supplement too. I would bf and then DH would feed formula and then I would pump. I was exausted to say the least! Tried to EP and that was equally exhausting doing it every 2 hours! Now we are FF and I feel a little more same :)
    5. Just furbabies, they love the babies!
    6. DH and I are thinking about taking a beach vacation in August. Anyone else doing that this summer? Am I completely crazy for even thinking it?!
Glad everyone is doing good, keep it up!

Oh and I'm tired of the following comments from people.
    Oh, are they twins?
Oh, you have your hands full.
what are you tired of hearing?
  • Same as you! People were stupid during pregnancy and they're stupid now. I get asked these every time I go out and about (and what I wish I could say to them):
Are they twins? (No they are just the same age. Yes stupid, they're twins)
Are they identical? (Do they look identical? Nope!)
Are they both girls? (No, I dress my boys in pretty pink dresses)
You must really have your hands full. (I have an almost 3 year old and newborn twins. Don't think you need to tell me that.)
You look really tired. Are you getting any sleep? (Well I'm breastfeeding twins every 2-3 hours. You tell me.)

  • I like when they ask if they are paternal! =))
  • Lol! I've never been asked that! That's hilarious!

  • 1. When were you due and when were babies born? Due June 6th. Born June 13th
    2. Boys fraternal look very similar. We get them mixed up a lot.
    3. c-section. They tried inducing but my body wouldn't give them up.
    4. If you're breastfeeding, how is that going? Going amazing. Have so much milk. But getting it everywhere. Puddles in bed, on the floor.
    5. Any older siblings? No first babies. We have a small dog. She keeps trying to lick them.
    6. Anything else you'd like to add?! Any advice you've got for the rest of us? No advice. I've lucked out on everything so far. They are healthy, deep sleepers, and are on the same schedule. Which really helps with everything. I agree with the strangers comments. Very annoying. I answered the "are they twins?" Question today with no I found one.
  • Your not crazy for planning a vacation in August. I'm planing to camp in a tent with mine in July.

Ok good. Well we aarare driving about 13 hours too but are going to break it up into 2 days for our own sanity! I already bought them really cute rash guard bathing suits and hats! I'm excited! I love beach babies!

  • 1. When were you due and when were babies born? June 20th. June 1st is when they were born
    2. Boys or girls? Boys
    3. Did you deliver vaginally or c-section? Scheduled csection
    4. If you're breastfeeding, how is that going? Didn't go well at all. Formula fed now and the baby Brezza machine has saved my life
    5. Any older siblings? If so, how are they handling the new additions? No
    6. Anything else you'd like to add?! Any advice you've got for the rest of us? Just exhausted. Feeding 2 at once is a challenge when my husband can't help out or just won't freakin wake up in the night. I wish they loved sleep as much as their parents

  • 1. When were you due and when were babies born?

June 25 due date, born June 4

    2. Boys or girls?

    One of each

    3. Did you deliver vaginally or c-section?

Scheduled c section at 37 weeks

    4. If you're breastfeeding, how is that going?

Exclusively pumping--we had latching problems early on, and feedings were taking forever if I tried to BF, then bottle feed formula, then pump. DH and I each case take a baby, feed BM out of a bottle, and I pump while I feed. For us, it's so much more convenient, and I can take my pump with me if I'm away from home during a feeding. I like the way we have it working now.

    5. Any older siblings? If so, how are they handling the new additions?

    Nope

    6. Anything else you'd like to add?! Any advice you've got for the rest of us

It's so hard not to compare the 2, development and temperament-wise. When one's cord fell off, I expected the other to do so at the same time... Lots of things like that.

  • 1. Due June 18th, they were born on May 16th at 35 weeks
    2. Both girls
    3. Vaginal delivery!
    4. Since my girls were premies, they never quite got the latch for bf so I pump (when I have free time, hah!) and we use formula
    5. No siblings other than a doggie fur baby!
    6. Any tips on surviving these simultaneous growth spurts?? My girls were eating basically every 4hrs, but now it's every 2hrs with this spurt. Essentially I get done feeding one, and the other is hungry again
  • I know I'm not really active on the board but have been lurking for advise and definitely could use some more support since the babies came home.

    1. When were you due and when were babies born? Due July 7th, Delivered at 38 weeks on June 23rd
    2. Boys or girls? Boy/Girl
    3. Did you deliver vaginally or c-section? Scheduled repeat c-section
    4. If you're breastfeeding, how is that going? I nursed first 24 hours then switched to formula. Latch & supply issues along with general anxiety over having 3 under 2 set in and formula feeding seemed to be a better option for our family.
    5. Any older siblings? If so, how are they handling the new additions? We have a 22 month old son. He's doing well but we have also had alot of family around to keep him busy. Hardest part is teaching him "gentle" and not being able to pick him up.
    6. Anything else you'd like to add?! Any advice you've got for the rest of us? I have been able to successfully feed them both. I prop one up on the boppy feet towards me and football hold the other one (I use my leg to help support) allowing my wrist to bend amd hold the bottle, supporting the back of the head in my elbow crook.

Where are your babies sleeping? During the day I let them snuggle in the pack n play but at night I keep them in their crib seperated, they don't sleep as well at all.
  • If you ladies haven't heard of the twin z pillow, check it out. It's awesome for nursing or bottle feeding. The website shows a video of all the ways it can be used. It's for feeding, tummy time, learning to sit and more. I love mine.

And my girls sleep in their rock n plays day and night. They love them. We just put them right next to each other and turn the vibration on for a few minutes.

The growth spurts suck. I feel like I have a baby attached to my boobs 24/7. I just know they need the extra calories and it'll pass. I'll do anything for these girls. Lanolin cream has become my best friend with all this feeding constantly. I also try to nurse them, then pump. I give them each about an ounce of pumped milk and then they seem more content even after nursing.

I am so jealous of you. The one time I tried bottle feeding at the same time, milk was EVERYWHERE. Oh, it was bad. I think it took just as long as just doing one child at a time. Maybe I just need practice
  • I have the twin z pillow, but for now it seems too big to feed both with bottles. (Their poor little necks looked so uncomfortable). They'll grow into it soon.

I can bottle feed both if I use 2 boppys next to each other in front of me. (I got them as hand me downs). DH does most feedings with me and we each take a kid, but every once in awhile one of us is busy and we'll do the boppy thing.

They also sleep in the rock n plays next to each other at the foot of our bed. I LOVE the rock n plays!
  • Maybe once my girls are bigger it'll work. They're 6 weeks old and only weigh about 6.5lbs and 7.5lbs... They're just little tykes! But maybe I'll invest in another boppy or the twin z. Hubby's gone back to work so I hate waking him at night if I don't need to, so that's when feeding them simultaneously would be most beneficial

My peanuts are just under 6 lbs at 3 1/2 weeks. :)

Do you have a bouncer? I've also fed one in a bouncer and one in a boppy next to each other.

@beckyk9109 what bottles are you using? A different bottle might make it easier as well. We use the playtex ventaire, the angle makes it much easier for me to make sure they are getting formula and not air. We used Tommy Tippie for the first 2 days, they were okay but much harder to manipulate, since BF wasn't happening I switched.

ETA: the ventaire also come in colors which is great since my little jellybeans are on different formulas.

This is how I fed my twin boys, but with a hippy on each side of me.

We do have bouncers! I'll have to try that next!

@munchkinsmama we've been using Tommie tippee lately, but I think when I attempted it we were just using the medela bottles I pump into. These are all great suggestions, when I'm brave enough I'll update you ladies on how it went, thanks!! :)
  • I'm jealous of all you ladies that are able to feed your twins at the same time. My girls have leaky mouth syndrome :(
