Sleeping on back vs Sleeping on side

The last couple weeks I've been tossing and turning from back to side, is it true that its best to sleep on your side??

I sleep however I'm comfortable, which is usually on my back.

There is a thread about week or 2 ago with a very good discussion and feedback on this. It was titled "sleeping positions"

I read a couple of things that said as the baby grows there is more of a risk sleeping on your back because the uterus pushes against a vein that makes your heart work harder. However, it also said that you will naturally move and shift as necessary so not to worry if you wake on your back.
  • After 20 weeks you shouldn't sleep on ur back. It push pressure on the main vein in ur back and can cause slowed blood flow and oxygen to u and baby
  • The last thread on this topic had lot of good advise. I would also recommend a pregnancy pillow, it is sleeping heaven.

  • I slept on my back my pregnancy with my daughter no problem, this pregnancy I am passing out within 10 minutes laying on my back. Everything starts going spotty and I start blacking out. My anatomy scan had to be done with me laying on my side. So this pregnancy I have no choice but to stay on my side!
  • I was tossing and turning all night from side to side until my husband bought me a snoogle yesterday. Best. Sleep. Ever.
They're on sale at buy buy baby right now and you can usually get a 20% off one item coupon pretty easily. I thought 65$ for a pillow was crazy but it was sooo worth it.
  • I wake up sleeping on my stomach, I guess I should just be happy I can still sleep on my stomach. I try to sleep on my side but wake up on my stomach or back.

I wake up on my my stomach also. When I sleep on either side my arm and hand fall asleep and its so annoying. I snore when I sleep on my back. I was concerned about sleeping on my stomach too.
  • Sleep how ever is comfortable right now. Your body will tell you when it is not safe. You'll be short of breath and in pain if it's not safe.
For now the baby is small and padded so sleep how you want.
  • I usually start out on my side but often end up on my stomach. I pretty much just sleep however I'm comfortable
