Biracial Children -- Question

This may seem like an odd question, but for anyone whose had a child of mixed ethnicity, I wonder... At what point did your child/children develop their 'final' skin tone color? I'm surprised by how pale-skinned my baby is given the bio father's coloring-- curious to know if this is apt to change over time, or if she simply inherited my tone after all.

Re: Biracial Children -- Question

  • My daughter who is 9 is white and black. When she was born she had a faint tan... By the time she was 6 months she had her "final" color. In the summer she gets a golden glow tan....

  • My kids are white and Hispanic. They were both born looking more Hispanic. My two year old is now almost as pale as me (which is very white!) but he tans super easy in the summer... Which I never do. I just burn.
  • This may be an OWT but they say that you can tell what a child's tone will be by the color of the top of their ears. I never really paid attention or go back and compare to photos. But I can say all of my 3 children (African American/Jamaican/White/Native American/Japanese) were very bright at birth and now are all their own different shades of beautiful brown. I have NO idea when their skin tone changed, again never really paid attention.

My children have such different tones so I can't tell you when they got their final tone. Our DS has been darker from day 1 and our DD has been super light. They both get Tan in the summer but DD not as dark. LO is very much lighter than both big brother and sister. I'm african and Arabic and hubby is white italian

  • Dd is very white but on her bAck has Mongolian blue spots. I believe that is the darker pigment developing. Mixed race/dark skin children get them
  • I asked the nurse about this in the hospital.  She also mentioned the top of the ear as a good sign of pigment.  I am biracial myself and both of my children are pale.  My son was the biggest shock and had I not watched him come out, I probably would have thought they gave me the wrong baby.  He hasn't "darkened" up but he does tan.  My newest one is also pale but not quite as shockingly so.  It is a little weird to spend nine months picturing a little brown baby and get handed a white one or vice versa.

  • Haven't had my little girl yet but I can't wait to see who she will take back after. I'm very pale and my husband is Japanese and has a darker skin tone. Also curious if she will get a lot of his traits like eye color and hair color. Hopefully any day now we will know :-)
  • My best friend had her first and she had the most beautiful dark skin and then had her second and she's as pale as can be. She doesn't even look related to them. Both mom and dad are mixed race. We laugh because the youngest looks 100% white like she was adopted. I say she was meant to be mine because both of my kids look nothing like me but people ask if she's mine when we're out.

Th oldest had her "final" color before her first bday. Maybe even by 6 months.
