Lilypadz vs Silicone nipple covers?

for BTDT moms - does anyone know if your basic silicone nipple pads ($3-10/pair) would work in lieu of Lilypadz ($20/pair)?

I used Lilypadz during my last pregnancy because I thought cloth pads were uncomfortable. Loved Lilypadz! But they are so expensive, a pair only lasts 1-2 months and by the end they are no longer sticky. I noticed Groupon has a sale on Silicone nipple pads they are just meant to give you coverage without a bra... And there are even cheaper ones on Amazon. Some are kinda small, others look as big as Lilypadz.

Anyone have experience using regular nipple pads as breast pads? Thoughts? I want to buy some soon so I have them before baby comes! Target doesn't always have Lilypadz in stock, I have noticed.

  • I actually didn't like lilipadz. Found them impossible to take off for nursing without spilling milk everywhere

  • Huh I didn't have that problem. Maybe spilled 4 times in a whole year, only when super engorged. I found them to be mych more comfortable than cloth pads.
  • I bought regular pads and organic cloth pads. I will look into those other pads that you mentioned.
  • Don't spend a lot until you see if you need them - some people don't leak at all.
