Congratulations on getting to take your LO home. I work in healthcare (albeit not nicu) and I can say that the most appreciated gift will be a sincere thank you card. It means so much to know that you've made a difference to someone's life, it really makes what you do worthwhile. As for a gift, food is always welcome - in my experience nurses and doctors are often so busy that they don't have time to take breaks and food gifts can be a lifesaver. Chocolate is probably the most commonly given gift, I would suggest for the sake of variety to consider giving something different - maybe a basket of baked goods or some pizzas for example would be amazing. But there's no obligation here, a thank you card is really the best gift of all.
