Bottles? Also question on Avent

What bottles do you like? We are going to introduce formula a bit more in a couple weeks and I want to have some good ones to try with her.

I have Dr Brown but there are so many parts! Was thinking of trying Avent or Munchkin Latch because we want something as close to breastfeeding as possible and we also want something with anti colic as baby gets gassy easily.

Also specifically about Avent for those that use the natural nipple what number do you use? We got one that came with a 2 but I think it is too fast flowing for a 4 week old?

Re: Bottles? Also question on Avent

  • I breastfeed and pump so DH can do one feeding a day and we use Avent ( mostly because of our bottle warmer) so far I have used a number one but I did use the number 2 once and my DS was fine with it. Try it out and see what works for your LO. It says number one is for up to a month but my LO is 6 weeks and still using it.

I highly recommend Tommee Tippee they are anti colic, close to breast like Dr Brown and only 3 pieces !
  • I bought the whole Kiinde system but DD doesn't like the bottles. I love the simplicity of it from pumping to storage to feeding but she's not going for it.

The Munchkin Latch bottles are great and she loves those.
  • I have the Avent Natural, Playtex Even-Flo and the Munchkin Latch. The Even-Flo and the Munchkin bottles work best for our LO. They're vented and it makes a difference for gas. I'm planning to try the Avent again once we get through this gassy stage. All of the bottles are allegedly designed not to disrupt breastfeeding as the nipples mimic the shape of the breast.

LO is 6 weeks and so far we haven't had any problems going between breast and bottle. She is breastfed in the morning and evening (trying to set that routine for when I return to work), gets expressed milk during the day, and is given one bottle of formula before bed.

As for nipples, we're using the slowest flow available for all bottles. Im planning to ask her pediatrician at her two month check-up about the right time to shift to the next stage of nipples.
  • I have the Kiinde system too. Easy for pumping - fail for feedings. I thought she wasn't getting enough (she was getting bored and/or pissed). Gave her the first tommee tippee bottle today and she guzzled it happily. Just finished pumping. Daddy is on for the 5am feeding tonight! I think the Munchkin latch are a similar design.
  • We use medela and avent. The avent 1 is still too fast. My son leaks and dribbles a good bit out with the avent ones.
  • We use avent with the smallest nipple when she has a bottle here and there and they've been great.
  • Tommee tipee here too! Baby loves it, no nipple confusion.
  • I use MAM and my daughter goes from breast to bottle everyday and has no confusion. They're anti colic and the nipple looks very similar to a breastfeeding nipple. I swear by this brand!
  • I use the avent natural but the 2 nipple is way too fast. Use either a 1 or even a preemie nipple if your little is a strong sucker. Dr. Browns work well but are a pain to clean and the nipples are not close enough to breast for my little guy.
  • I really like my dr Browns, it's a pain but only takes literally 2 seconds more to clean. I also highly suggest getting a boon (looks like grass) with the flower attachments, so easy for drying!
  • I have the avent bottles and love them. Baby will be 4 weeks old Monday and I'm still using the size 1 nipple. I have the 2 and have used it a couple times sometimes he chokes on it cause he's a greedy bugger. So will be staying with the 1 for a bit longer.

It's weird because the baby I nannied for used Tommee tippee and had acid reflux. When I found out my daughter had AR, I decided to get the same bottles. I loved them for the baby I nannied. I hate them for my own baby.
She gets a lot of gas from them.

I love the Avent bottles. I use 1 for the nipples and she is 6 weeks. She does fine with that size for now. I bought all sizes. Not sure when I'll switch. I'm afraid to with her having AR, haha.
