I've been craving California Rolls like I've been deprived for years... It has cooked crab in it, avocado, cucumber, seaweed and rice.. Is this ok to eat? I've hard mix responses. Thanks!!
I've had a Cali roll and a shrimp tempura roll every Friday for lunch since I found out. yUUuUmMm. Should be safe since they're cooked and not high Mercury.

I've had sushi with uncooked fish. I don't eat at shady restaurants to begin with, so I'm comfortable eating mostly as I did before pregnancy. It's a wonder how people in Japan have healthy babies...

Those are my two favorites! :-)
I was eating sushi before my nausea turned me off to seafood. As long as you eat the cooked stuff at a reputable restaurant, I think you're fine.
@TinyDancer51510 they hit the spot but I have been missing my Alaska (salmon/avocado) and spicy crunchy tuna rolls!! It's not that I'm afraid of the raw fish so much as I am completely turned off the raw texture right now!

I had some avocado rolls and a crab hand roll last week, sooooo good! I usually have spicy tuna, eel, yellowtail, but I took it easy because I was queasy (hehe rhyme).
I used to eat sushi at least once a week. I haven't had any in 6 weeks. I think I'm about due for something. I'll even take a vegetable roll right now!
I'm confused why people would question a california roll....it's all cooked food. I've eaten raw sushi at least 5 times since finding out I'm pregnant. It was super yum. Like PP said, Japanese women have tons of healthy babies eating raw. California Roll is very much fine.
I just asked one of my friends who lived in Japan for her first pregnancy (because her husband works for Toyota and had to live there for work for 2 years). I was hoping she'd say it was OK to eat California rolls. She was telling me that it is common to eat sushi in Japan while pregnant but the fish is fresher there with lower mercury levels. She said all the Japanese Toyota expat wives who come to the states are told to avoid sushi and even California rolls in the states because of the high mercury levels.
She said even California rolls should be avoided because alot of times they cut the roll with the same knife that they cut the other raw fish with. I thought that was so interesting and sad as I sat in a sushi restaurant with her.
I think in moderation is fine. My friends ate raw sushi in the states during their second and third pregnancy and their kids came out healthy!
Hi Ladies I'm from California but currently living in Japan and there are lots of other food choices besides sushi ;-) but sushi is a lot fresher here than in the states.
I feel if it's like with everything else in life consumed in moderation it is fine I just ate a bomb ass spicy tuna roll and yellow tail sushi for dinner yesterday and I know my little one will be fine... It actually made me feel a lil better since I currently have a cold and was feeling crummy
I had a California roll too it was the highlight of my day as I had been dreaming about sushi all weekend!!! Eugh now I want more and it's midnight. Hubby..!!!!??????
