Mini pill and pregnancy?

I had my 6 week check up today and got a prescription for the mini pill. I read up on it a bit, and it seems that tons of people have gotten pregnant while on the MP, even when they take it at the exact same time every day! Has anyone here gotten pregnant on the MP? I am not up for another baby just yet and am considering using backup just in case...

Re: Mini pill and pregnancy?

  • My doc said it is very very important to take it every day and the same exact time because the hormone levels were so low that if you miss just one pill or are off by just a few hours it could cause a pregnancy. I just decided not to use it and use condoms while I BF. I don't want to take a pill that could give me more worry than good or false hope that it's working. I'd rather be safe than sorry. My husband won't go along with abstanance lol.

  • I am also using the MP, but currently not active. I was wondering if I should also use a condom if my sons father and I stop arguing soon..
  • I just started taking the pill not active yet but next week is my 6 week appt and I'm already thinking about another form of birth control bc I'm scared il forget with a newborn and all.
  • My dr said its not 100%.. It needs to be paired with something. It's the safest pill while breastfeeding
  • I just went to the doc yesterday and she said as long as you are EB and take the pill diligently she has never had any patients get pregnant. Only one who started weaning and figured she'd be okay.

My dr said this too. Take the pill at the same time, give or take an hr at the most, & it's very effective. I set an alarm on my phone to go off everyday at noon. I take my pill & my prenatal then.
  • My May baby is the result of the mini pill not working...however her sister was 15 months and while still breastfeeding, it was significantly less frequent than the first 8 months. I also had gotten my period back about 2 months prior. I'm also not fantastic at diligently taking pills (used nuvaring pre-kids for that very reason)...I missed at least 1 pill each month :/

So you took the mini pill and got pregnant? But didn't take it at the same time every day? Were you breastfeeding?
  • All these responses are freaking me out. Maybe this is not the best option :(
  • My hospital practically forced birth control on me before I left the the hospital, so I have the mini pill, but have not used it yet and don't plan to solely rely on a pill forcprotection, if you're worried, use a condom.
