So the other day while shopping for baby I came across "baby dish soap" . I never knew anyone who used it or any kinda baby soap for there child's bottles or bowls..etc. besides the baby laundry detergent for laundry..

But after seeing it , it's making me think its been made for a reason because theirs things in regular dish soap that aren't good for baby.. Right ?

Should I waste my time on it ? Or leave it alone ?

I just kinda feel like I'm the FTM doing way too much to go as far as purchasing baby dish soap when I'm sure regular soap isn't much of a difference or harm besides fragrance and what not...

What do you ladies think about this soap made specifically for baby dishes ?

Re: Good idea or waste of money ?

  • We switched to Palmolive pure and clear when DD was born and use it for all our dishes not just her items. I just wanted something g fragrance free and it works well.
  • Loading the player...
  • I've never heard of it but personally I'd stick with regular dish soap
  • I'm just sticking with normal dish soap as you have to sterilize the babies stuff anyways
So I just wash her bottles etc and then sterilize it so no put spending money on a special soap
  • For my 1st baby I used regular soap and then boiled the bottles for a good min. But no special soap
  • I actually used it with my first because I was that FTM lol. I did like the smell though. Then I got wiser and started using the dishwasher.

I tend to go free and clear across the board and use it for everyone.
  • Personally I think it's a waste.

Someone very clever created it and is making a fortune based on a label. lol.

  • Never even heard of it. Great marketing ploy, wish I had thought of it!
  • We still have to boil the bottles afterwards. I say it's a waist of money.

  • Yep, another unnecessary item they want you to think a baby "needs."

Maybe I am in the minority, but I did not sterilize my bottles after washing them - we put them through the dishwasher, which gets good and hot and we trust it with our own dishes. Never had any problems. I would use the microwave bags that came for free with the bottles sometimes for my pump parts, but mostly just dishwashered those up too.

I just went to a newborn care class and was told sterilizing unnecessary, hot sopay water is all you need.
I was thinking this too. I have never heard of boiling bottles until the bump. I'm a ftm, but nobody in my family has done this.
  • Waste of money, just like most things labeled specifically for babies. It's great marketing, though.
  • Blue dawn, works fine for everything else:)
  • Most baby products recommend you sterilize before first use. Hand washing or running in the dishwasher if the item is dishwasher safe is all you should need to do after that.
  • Sterilizing is a preemie thing mostly unless you have to a full termer with a medical condition that your pedi specifically says to sterilize. Some moms are more OCD about sterilizing past just using a dishwasher. If you want to do it, you can, if you don't, LO will be fine too.

  • For household cleaners (soap, detergent, kitchen cleaner) I just go with something safe for the whole family. Comparing active ingredients is probably better than just going with something that says "baby"' on the label. I use Seventh Generation for most things.

I can't imagine doing special loads of dishes and laundry for baby and separate ones for us. Talk about a waste of time!

Thanks @Miz_Liz! I was also thinking that sterilizing/boiling pump parts and bottles for each cleaning sounded like a giant waste of time. Glad I'm not alone.

  • I disagree. There are toxic chemicals in so many products that people never question. I'd rather be safe than sorry--I'm not a germaphobe but exposure to toxins isn't a good way to start a babies life. Maybe not baby-specific soaps but I'd buy natural products. Funny that people won't immunize their children yet they dip them in chemical baths (so to speak).
  • Speaking from experience we all worry about this stuff a lot with our firstborns but by the time they're 2 they eat dirt and drink hose water, pool water and tub water with pee in it and are just generally disgusting little creatures. It's a waste of money in my opinion but I did switch to Method dish soap for the whole family. My point being don't bother to get special dish soap just for baby dishes but it never hurts to use less chemicals for your whole family.
