I went to the doctor yesterday and found out that by group b strep test was positive. I am 38w 6d with baby #2. (I was not positive with baby #1) I know I shouldn't be, but I a freaking out a little bit about this. My first labor went so quickly that I almost didn't receive my epidural.  Everything I have read says I need to be on my antibiotics at least 4 hours prior to delivery.  Someone help calm me down please!

    I was gbs+. If your water breaks at home you need to head to l&d immediately for drugs. Otherwise just go in whenever you're in active labor. I went in when contractions were 3 minutes apart and had enough time for two rounds of antibiotics. I will warn you that at my hospital, they wouldn't give me the epidural until I had gotten the first bag of antibiotics in. The nurse set it to go in really fast because I was having serious back labor contractions 1-2 minutes apart at that point. The drugs going through the IV hurt, but it was totally worth getting to the epidural ASAP.

    If you're concerned about another fast labor, just head in early. It will put your mind at ease.

    Thank you so much! I had no idea that they might not give me my epidural if there wasn't enough time!  That is something that I will be glad to be mentally prepared for!  Thankfully we are close to the hospital so I can get there quickly.  It helps to hear from someone else who was gbs +!

    I was GBS positive, they didn't give me my antibiotics right away and my son is completely fine and healthy (: ! As long as they get you started on them you'll be fine (: !

    They want you to have two doses. You can ask for the medicine to be "watered" down with the fluids. However if you are induced using pitocin they can't do it and it hurts like hell. My 1 st dose was fine my 2nd wasnt. But usually everything will be ok so try not to stress.

    I was + at my last appt a couple days ago n my dr gave me amoxicillin n told me to take 3 pills a day for a week then 1 pill a day for a week :/ I'm 36 weeks n 4 days today. I hope its ok. I'm just worried I will have to get them again at delivery. Has anyone heard of this before?

    30% are GBS positive. I just finished my labor and delivery term for my nursing program so saw tons of women who were GBS positive. Yes they will give you antibiotics but it does not harm the baby. You will be fine!
