breast pump questions

What breast pump do you like the best? I am in my first trimester but I am doing research because I'm high risk so I can put the order for my pump in now just in case I have to deliver sooner than later. I don't have a lot of friends that pumped.
My insurance offers an Amenda Purely Yours Ultra, Medela Pump In Style, Freemie Freedom, and Spectra 9 Plus. Any opinions would be awesome! TIA!

    Medela is best
  • Medela Pump in Style all the way! It's highly recommended. If you plan on exclusively pumping I would also suggest you look into the Kiinde system - it's a direct pump to feed system, you pump straight into a baggie that hooks straight into a bottle. It saved me tons of time and bottle washing. All those pump bottles and feeding bottles add up. The starter kit is only $23 at target. The bags are a bit pricey - 80 for $25 but saving me time was well worth the little bit extra!

  • I have the Ameda purely yours ultra. It comes with a ton of stuff including car adapter. It works very well and I haven't had any issues (been pumping one or two feedings a day for 2 months). Hospital gave us a bag of accessories (extra flanges, funnels, bottles & lids) to go with Ameda so that's why we went with that over others.
  • I have the Medela and Ameda pumps. Insurance bought the Ameda pump. I had issues with the Ameda flange fitting and I couldn't find smaller ones in the store, so I paid retail for the Medela after damaging my nipple in a few days. The Medela flange fit great. The Medela parts can be used on the Ameda pump, so now I have two sets- one for work and one for home.
  • Another vote for Medela

I rented the medela "symphony" from the hospital for the first couple months before making the $400 investment on the pump in style. In addition, I learned the symphony is best to mimic a baby & gets your milk going stronger. It worked for me. After that, I used he pump in style to maintain.
  • I have a pump in style and love it. I was nervous because I'm not using plastic bottles but my glass bottles screw into the cones just as well as the containers that come with the pump.
