Re: *** 1st Tri Checkin 06/22/15 ***

  • Happy Monday, ladies!
Last Friday, we had our first appt with a regular OB. We were not impressed, ha. We took one of our specialists suggested OB's and were saddened at how impersonal it all seemed. I guess we were really spoiled with our fertility clinic, it was small and intimate, plus we were used to it. This office has over 5 OBs and we are supposed to rotate who we see in case our particular one isn't on call for the big day.DH also didn't like how impersonal it was, but I think we'll get used to it.
The appt was LONG too! Hour and a half! But we did get to see our babies, through a abdominal u/s! That was a first for us. And both of them were awake, dancing, kicking, waving. I sat on the table bawling my eyes out. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! THIS was one of the moments that has made all of the tests, shots, blood draws, procedures, everything completely worth it.
Both babies measured a day or two days ahead with strong heartbeats. We also found out how much I'll be going to visit them towards the end. I guess the last couple of months, I'll be going weekly or twice a week to check on their status. A little scary but it's all for the best. They also gave us the second green light to make our announcement. We also got our due date for twins. They will not let us go past December 21, so we'll be getting our Christmas presents early!

Immediately after the appt, we headed 2 hours away to DH's hometown with announcement set number 1- a cardboard oven with a see through front that showed 2 babies I made out of chocolate and labeled "Michelle's Oven". Step mom figured it out straight away and started gushing while his dad took a few extra seconds to take it all in. They were elated with the news and I got one of the longest congratulatory hugs I've ever had. They also informed us that he has bought the cribs for my SIL's first babies and that they would be buying us two. I felt a little guilty with that news but DH told me we need to take all of the help we can get! We then showed them a photo of our announcement on the scoreboard of the MLB team in town. FIL got so excited, he said he was going to take it and show his neighbors straight away. I had to ask if we could go with, haha, he was just too excited to tell them that he didn't think about us going too. The neighbors were equally excited but it took them a couple tries to realize it was twins.
Then on to MIL house, where she did not get that there were twins. She claimed that DH had assured her there was only one so she didn't think there would be two. She was also jacked and had us walk up to her parents and give them their oven. Grandma got it the quickest and had to explain it to grandpa who kept saying how wonderful it was.
Then we started the rounds and called our siblings to let them know. My nephews squealed with delight, which was awesome!

The next day, we went to breakfast with my aunts and uncles and I wore a shirt that had a mock movie poster entitled "The Tale of Two Buns, One Oven" and they were overjoyed for us. Later in the day, my mom announced it at a family reunion and I ended up getting slapped by a cousin's wife because she kept asking what was new, hoping I'd tell her I was pregnant. Then everyone scolded her for hitting a pregnant lady!

The only negative feedback I got was from my Japanese grandmother when we showed her photos and told her. She alluded to the fact that I may have cheated because we showed her photos of Baby A and Baby B and she said "That one looks dark." While I bit my tongue, my mother explained that they are in different spots and have different shadows and you can't tell race from an u/s but assured her, they were both DH's. Grandma proceeded to give DH a hug and me a dirty look. She then asked when I kept losing the others, I told her 6 weeks, she asked how far I was now, I responded with 12. She looked DH straight in the eye and said "Oh, she's ok now. You can kick her now, they are safe." I loudly told her that he would never have the right to kick me, pregnant or not, at the same time he was saying how he would never kick or hit me. The rest of the conversation only went downhill as she blamed my mother for random things, went on to talk rudely about my dead father, uncle and especially my grandfather. I kept zoning in and out, trying to keep my blood pressure from skyrocketing. When we were finally able to leave, she told DH that she wanted to take him to Japan with her, just the two of them. And while they were there, she'd buy him a nice time with an actual Geisha. Ridiculous right? And she wonders why we never visit.

Sorry! Got a little long winded there!

QOTW- I'm getting excited for when they both start kicking and you can feel them from the outside. DH is still trying to grasp that this is really, finally happening and I think that'll help convince him. I'm also excited for my mother to feel them kick. My SIL has had 2 babies and is pregnant with her 3rd but never let anyone other than my brother and her family touch her belly while they kicked and moved, so my mother is excited to touch mine a lot.

MrsBwIVF I felt the same way at the OB during my lat pregnancy.  I was used to seeing all these images from super high tech machines and was very under impressed with the equipment at the OB. It looked like they were using stuff from the 80s or something!

QOTW.  I don't know what I am looking forward to...I guess getting through the first trimester again.  Being able to finally announce. I won't announce until much later than most people because I feel the need to be very cautious.

No updates until my next us on Thursday.  I am trying not to worry from my last appointment.  Both babies had heartbeats, but one was way ahead.  Baby A was 6w4d at 111 and Baby B was 6w5d at 127.  I looked back at my older labs when I was expecting twins last time and it had the babies at 6w2d 111 and 6w3d 117....so maybe my current baby A will have a faster heart rate Thursday.  I can only pray.

  • @Roeni, I'm glad I'm not alone!!! I felt like kind of a brat afterwards.
Also, you are having another set of twins! My goodness! That sounds terrifying! I'm sure they'll both be just fine.
  • Hello. This is my first post here. I went through 7 cycles of IUI medicated and got a BFP on the first try with IVF with ICSI. Due date is 2/26/16. No idea on the bean count yet. Ultrasound will be July 6th. Betas going up as they should. So far so good.

MrsBwIVF NO! My last pregnancy turned into a singleton after 8 weeks.  If I'd had twins last time I probably wouldn't be on this board again right now ;)
  • Oh I'm so sorry.
    Fx for you!
  • This week we don't have a lot going on as far as appts go. I have my first OB appt July 2. I did borrow a doppler from my sister and have been obsessing over that...it's so cool to be able to hear the heartbeat whenever I want! Other than having a Healthy baby, I am looking forward to....yoga pants everyday lol, and time off from work! We are going through a company-wide software implementation and it is stressful!

  • @MrsBwIVF you're definitely not a brat! I had the same qualms about my regular OB and so I looked for another practice. Now I'm with the chief OB of our small-town hospital where they only have 1birth per day and I couldn't be happier with the attention I've gotten there just after 1 visit!

@BABY5395 the at home Doppler has been such a sanity saver!! We haven't had an u/s since wk 9, which DH didn't get to attend, and he finally heard the HB last night with the Doppler.

I've also been having a hard time connecting to this pg(#5) that being able to lay in bed and hear that little drummer is making a world of difference.

Qotw: since this is the longest I've stayed pregnant, I'm honestly looking forward to everything, the kicks, the progressing ultrasounds, actually having a bump :) baby hiccups! The only thing I'm NOT looking forward to are how big my boobs will get. Between how painful they were with all the progesterone and already being bigger (I started at E for eek! and already up a cup :(( ) I just can't even!

I guess if I had to pick one thing, it will be holding my LO. I've dreamt about it for so long and it will be the perfect culmination to this journey.

    8 Years
    2 Miscarriages
    2 Ectopic Pregnancies
    1 Round of Clomid
    1 Fresh IVF Cycle
    1 Bean and 5 Frosties!
  • Not much to update on this week. I don't go back for another two weeks, and that will be my last appt with RE. I am waiting to hear back from a perinatal group to see if they will accept me, since my regular ob/gyn would not be able to handle the four of us. Nervous not having a doc right now :/
QOTW: going through a Debbie downer phase ATM. It took three weeks but it's finally sunk it that I'm having three babies, and I'm freaking out.

@MrsBwIVF love your reveal- except the mean grandma part! Wow!

@Roeni it sounds like your babies are right there together? I think those are normal for 6 weeks, hope you can relax and enjoy this time (and maybe I can take my own advice too ;)

Two years, two losses and three IUIs...

    We are having TRIPLETS!

  • Hello not much this week either for me just counting down the days till my 12 week appointment... 6 days to go!!

I'm technically having two children as I have an adoption under way as well as being pregnant! So I am most looking forward to having both kids home and seeing them together!
  • Ok scratch that I miss read the question I thought it read what you are most looking forward to having the baby missed the pregnancy part ...

That's an easy one having a big belly and feeling it kick! But mostly having a bump I can't wait ....!
  • Hi all,

12 weeks 2 days today. Not much to report. Had first trimester screening this am and I didn't have to have the standard b/w and u/s b/c we opted for MaterniT21 instead so they did that. I was looking forward to seeing baby as my husband attended today's appt and he has not yet seen baby on u/s but since I have had FOUR u/s so far, I can't be too upset that they skipped it!

Really nervous to announce. It is hard for me to accept that an IVF pregnancy, esp at my age, is now a "normal" pregnancy. I just can't get used to it. Also, I am really concerned about problems at work, people are NOT going to be happy, to say the very least. Anticipating big trouble and scheduling problems, and I do feel horrible about springing this on them. I'm trying to put it off as long as possible.

QOTW: I do enjoy the second two trimesters so I am looking forward to that. Frankly, IVF just puts me in such a "fight or flight" mode that I really am looking forward to the take-home prize!!!

    Welcome to the newbies!

@MrsBwIVF, holy crap.  I would've been so tempted to punch Grandma in the face and then smile sweetly and say, "Sorry, hormones."

11 weeks today!  Not much new, still afraid of cooked eggs and cooked fish.  Sigh.  I am just waiting and waiting and WAITING for Mat21 results.  Hopefully Friday, I really don't want it to drag out until Monday.  Have I mentioned that I HATE waiting?  We are having some close friends over for Shabbat dinner this Friday night and we would love to tell them, but only if we get good results by then.  Random funny story - we went to a black-tie-optional wedding on Sunday and I rented a dress from renttherunway.com which was super-glam and totally hid the bump (they have a category called "bump-friendly!") and hubby and I kept surreptitiously switching wine glasses so it would look like I was drinking.  Heh.

QOTW: I am looking forward to relaxing a bit, hopefully, once we get the Mat21 results.  We plan to be "2 and through" so this is hopefully my last pregnancy if all goes well...so I want to enjoy it once I can silence the voice screaming in my head, "But what if the results are bad?"

    BabyFetus Ticker
  • I'm 8 weeks 1 day today and I just got back from my ultrasound appt. I was so nervous that something was wrong - it was silly. The fetus has a normal heartbeat and showed us all its parts. Spine, limb nubs, brain cavity with fluid, ear buds. My RE is very pleased, then kicked me out to the regular OB. It's official, I graduated! I still can't believe this is real, but the morning sickness says otherwise. I should be due Feb. 2nd, but don't have an official date yet. I'm really looking forward to getting rid of the nausea and feeling the baby kick.
  • Just popping in to add to my earlier update...the doc called on Wednesday (2 days earlier than I was hoping for!) to tell me that my Mat21 results are all negative/normal...and we are Team Pink!

Also, today was my first day of anything like morning sickness. Apparently Yoda decided overnight that she(!) doesn't like spices, which I discovered while making chicken mole in the crockpot with chile powder, cumin, cinnamon, and marjoram.  disnt actually get sick but really really wanted to.  Fun times, but I'll take it... :)

Hello all - I'd like to be added to the group.  EDD - 02/27/16, unknown beans and 4w 6d.  I'm so excited to be able to post in this group. My husband and I are hesitant to share with others until we get thru the 1st trimester (we experienced a miscarriage back in Sept '14).  I had my 1st blood draw yesterday after a positive HPT on Wednesday.  Levels are good at 169.  I go back on Monday for another blood draw and hope to see my levels increase 1.5 times over where they currently are.

QOTW: I'm most excited to actually experience some symptoms of being pregnant like morning sickness and getting to tell everyone.
