Huge blood clot

Just thought I'd share my experience in case any of you go through a similar thing. Wish I had known this was possible/realistic. As I was leaving the hospital, the nurses were clear that if I had a large blood clot, I should call immediately. About 6 days after birth, I was standing and a gigantic clot came rushing out of me and onto the ground. It was about the size of a plum and scared the sh*t out of me! Called the doctor, who wasn't too concerned so long as I wasn't soaking a pad an hour other than that one time. Though I had images of hemorrhaging in my bedroom, turns out all was well-- as the dr had said, it was a clot that had stuck to the uterus and not been expelled during birth. 

Anyway, just thought the story may come in handy in case anyone else is in tears thinking they're about to die. Granted, please call your doctor (of course), but know that it really may be benign.

    I had a humongous base ball sized one that came out the day after birth. It made me pass out. Definitely very scary. Good thing I had a nurse in there with me to keep me from falling and waking me up by popping a capsule by my face. I have no idea what was in it...But it worked. Sorry you had to experience that at all. Definitely not cool body definitely not cool!

    Hi all I posted a similar story earlier so I second this. For me, it was a sign of a partially retained placenta, which is when placental tissue breaks off from the placenta and sticks to the uterine wall. It's not obvious to the doc at the time. It resulted in a D&E procedure at 9 days post-partum. So yeah, get yourself checked out if you have either a large clot or a series of small clots!

    Yup! I had a grapefruit size one come out in the middle of the night twp weeks pp after my last pregnancy. ...bled all over the bathroom floor...thought I was dying! I was terrified. ...scared the crap out of my husband too. ..definitely traumatizing so when I got pregnant again I was instantly scared of history repeating itself...almost two weeks pp and so far so good..I even had an ultrasound before I left hospital to make sure nothing was left as last time I had an infection along with the clot.
