Re: ~~~Bed Rest Check-In 6/10/15~~~

  • 32 +3 - and happy to have made it this far on modified BR. My last day of work is Friday and I am really happy about that. I'm physically just so uncomfortable and exhausted with this pregnancy that it's been hard to sit and work on the computer. The best gift I received so far this pregnancy was a spa gift card from DH for Mother's Day. I'm hoping to go next week and get a nice cut and color before the little ones arrive - so there's a chance I'll look decent for photos despite the sheer exhaustion I expect with two newborns. :-)

  • 34 weeks and 5 days :) So happy and pleased with the outcome of my bedrest for this pregnancy. My stitch gets removed in 2 weeks ☺ My bedrest has been lifted at 32 weeks but i still take it easy as i do not want to risk anything. Glad to have made it this far and to still have my lil man safely inside me cooking away ☺

23 weeks today. One more week for viability! Bed rest hasn't been very fun and I have also been having anxiety about finances and things but I'm doing whatever I can for my baby to keep cooking in there
  • Went to my Dr. today and we have scheduled induction for Friday, June 19th! Just in time for Father's Day! So ready to hold my baby girl. The modified BR really helped keep my preeclampsia under control. Hang in there ladies, there is light at the end of the tunnel!
  • @justyh - the financial aspect is so frustrating.  Especially when you consider that the US is pretty much the worst country as far as providing paid maternity leave for new moms.  John Oliver just did a piece on this for Mother's Day:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIhKAQX5izw

@shannonjohnson1940 - how exciting to have a date!!!  Please keep us posted :-)

    @lawmom747 thank u for sharing !!!
  • Hi, I'm new here...
I'm 27 weeks today- EDD of 9/12/15, with a baby girl...

I was feeling tremendous sharp abdominal pain last Friday which I still think was likely just RL pain... But when it lasted for over 12 hours, my doctor told me to go to the hospital, and it turned out I had been having contractions 2-3 minutes apart and that my cervix was at about 2.8. They gave me antibiotics even though they didn't detect an infection and steroid shots to help with lung development

I spent last weekend through this past Monday in the hospital and it turns out I have a dynamic cervix. Doctor put me on what he called "modified bed rest," but it hadn't been clear to me that I wasn't supposed to really be sitting except to eat until yesterday- so I don't really know what kind of bed rest that is. Seems pretty strict to me, though I can get up to pee and shower quickly and make myself something to eat (also quickly).

I go to him on Monday, so we will see what he says then and see whether he will give me more leeway. I don't know. I keep reading about how bed rest can cause more problems, but if I did more than what he is telling me to do and I go into labor I'll have to assume it's because I did too much.

I am feeling so much discomfort but I think a lot of that is from being so sedentary- including the incredible indigestion. I keep waking up in the middle of the night with pain and being so scared that it's due to contractions. I just don't trust my body right now.

I also feel so terrible because my husband and I had so many fun summer before-the-baby-comes plans and now we just basically are sitting around staring at one another. Luckily we actually like each other, hehe, but it's still such a bummer.

I know it will all be worth it if she is healthy, but the not knowing is driving me crazy!

I hope to find some friendship and fellowship and support here. Xoxo
  • @muffin1120 - welcome to the group.  I have been on modified bedrest since 20 weeks - but I'm thankful every day that I'm not on hospital bed rest like others in this check-in because they absolutely have the toughest road.  It's best to just take one day at a time and know that each day the baby stays in is less potential time in the NICU.

I found a lot of helpful information on the Sidelines website.  sidelines.org

They even have this checklist that you can review with your doctor so you really know what limitations are in place:

  • At least you are already at 27 weeks and past the 24 weeks viability stage. I was put on modified bedrest at home at 21 weeks due to short cervix (0.9 cm) and at 23 weeks my cervix opened up to 2cm so my doctor put me on hospital bedrest. We're turning 26 weeks tomorrow and I even though I have my not so good days, I still feel lucky that we made it this far and with more prayers and positivity my baby girl will reach full term and be born healthy and normal :)

Praying for you and mommy's like us :)
  • Thank you so much for the information (that website is great!) and the support, ladies. I am thinking of you and hoping for all of our little ones to just keep on baking...

Lawmom- am I right in assuming you're a lawyer too? I work for a small matrimonial firm in NY (read: no legal protection really) and I've been begging for work to continue working from home...have you continued to work? Are you on leave?
  • @muffin1120 - I have been working from home for 12 weeks. It was not HR's prerogative but my boss fought for me. But at 33 weeks with twins I am crazy uncomfortable and it was my choice to take disability now. The firm is holding me to the 12 weeks FMLA so the clock is ticking. Ideally I wanted the 12 weeks to start when the babies arrived. So it is possible I will have to request some unpaid leave time which they could refuse me. I've found law firms to be one of the least hospitable to women and their families.

  • @voborje we are in the same boat, I've been on strict hospital best for 6 days now, we are now 24+2 and just trying to keep our hopes up that we can keep baby girl in as long as possible! I have shortened cervix with funneling and measured 1.3cm this morning. I'm taking procardia every six hours and progesterone suppositories every night. I am contacting throughout the day pretty regularly but that had been normal for me some being admitted. I am just mentally preparing myself to be here for the long run! I'd love to hear your progress!
  • Woohoo I got to go home! I'm still on bed rest at home, but it's so much better being in my own environment!

I also now have GD, which completely sucks as my love for chocolate is huge, but I've made it 31 weeks which is 5 weeks longer than I could have ever hoped.

Baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead and there is extra fluid :-( have another scan at 34 weeks to see how things are tracking and then will discuss induction.

Cervix is measuring 9mm still so it hasnt gotten any worse which is awesome.

Hope everyone else is coping ok
  • I am currently 24 weeks and 3 days. I have been on hospital bedrest since June 9th. Came in for passing a larger clot and bright red bleeding. Had a second bleed in the hospital that was much smaller on 6/13. Have had some better days with the bleeding. Some days it seems like it's going to stop and then some days I have minimal spotting. Baby's amniotic fluid has also gone down so they're minitoring that as well. There are no plans for me being able to go home on bed rest until no bleeding and better fluid levels for at least 3-7 days straight. Looks like I am in for the long haul. Trying to keep my eye on the prize and set milestones for myself. Hoping to get to 28 weeks and then hopefully 34. I have my bad days but try to remind myself that everyday she stays in there is a great day no matter what! This is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to go through!! Feel like I'm missing out on enjoying my pregnancy and life around me. Just want to at least be on bed rest at home where I can be in my own environment. I feel for any woman who had had to endure this journey, but the gift we get at the end of this is well worth it! Positive thoughts appreciated!! I've gotta keep her in as long as I can!

I feel for all u ladies in hospital bed rest! Sending warm thoughts. We all are going to get through this and the reward is going to be so much more worth all this !!
  • FTM and new to the group. I'm 17+5 and had a cerclage on Friday (EDD11/26) Tried to go back to work today and ended up with abd pain that radiated to my back. On bed rest per dr till Monday (my next appt) at least. Frustrated and feeling useless because this time is chewing at my maternity leave. Any advice and just hearing from you all is helpful.
  • @eburttr We are now 27 weeks and 2 days today and this Thursday will be our 3rd week in the hospital! My high risk doctor said they will evaluate me on my 28th week to see if they can let me go home to continue bedrest there. If I continue to be stable then they'll let me go. I'm crossing my fingers and toes and praying for home bedrest as I miss my bed and cuddles with my husband every night (my sister stays with me in the hospital on weekdays and hubby on weekends) having family support at this time helps and prevents the sad days. Let's continue putting our feet up, talking to our babies and praying for full term delivery! We can all do this! :)
  • I delivered our perfect little girl Katherine yesterday June 22 at 5:21 37+6. She weighs 6lbs 9oz and 17.5. After 3 months of MOD BR I finally got to meet my baby! Every minute was worth it:) I know everyone is going to get to experience this pure bliss. Good luck ladies, can't wait to hear your success stories too
  • @shannonjohnson1940 - congrats! You are a testimony of a happy ending after enduring 3 months of modified bedrest!

@eburttr - I've been on bedrest at home for 2 weeks and then hospital bedrest now for 3 weeks because I was 2 cm dilated (I was 24 weeks then). My doctor was ready to release me this coming Monday when I hit my 28th week but last Wednesday morning my water bag broke and they put me on antibiotics, magnesium and steroids. Doctor said they will not discharge me and we are here for the long haul. My arms and thighs are black and blue from all the needles (steroids, heparin, insulin injections). Since yesterday and today I've been feeling crappy and crying because of anxiety and our pregnancy hormones are not helping! I'm trying to stay positive so that baby doesn't feel my sadness and it helped that a nurse practitioner gave me a soothing arm
massage yesterday. My husband also decided to take off from work to cheer me up and feed me good food which is helping me right now. Let's try to watch some funny movies or read a book to keep our minds off of our situation. I know God did not put us in this situation if He knew that we couldn't make it. Our faith will save us! Close your eyes and pray. We and our babies will be saved! In Jesus name, Amen! :)
