For Those Who Are Doing NT Scanning...

...Are you bringing the daddy-to-be or flying solo?

Re: For Those Who Are Doing NT Scanning...

  • I am bringing my mom. My DH has a hard time getting off work and I want to make sure he can definitely make it to the 20 week scan.

Plus my mom has never seen an ultrasound since they didn't do those when she had kids!

  • I went yesterday a saw the baby for the first time!! So exciting!! I always bring DH to ultrasounds. Why wouldn't I unless he couldn't get off of work?
  • I'm bringing my husband because this will be our first ultrasound. I'm excited to see the baby!!
  • I would love for dh to be there but his work doesn't let him get time off. He had to miss the first ultrasound as well :( thankfully his sister is amazing and will be going to all the ultrasounds with me.

I brought my H bc I did not want to be there alone if something abnormal was found. Also, there are not many opportunities to see LO throughout the pregnancy. I didn't want H to miss out or regret not going.

  • I go in next week for mine and my husband is trying to get someone to cover his meeting so he an come with. We both feel it's important for him to be there for the ultra sounds as it's the best way for him to feel apart of everything.
  • My mom is taking me. He's planning on taking off for the a/s and has to use time off sparingly.
  • My DH came with me. Luckily he works evenings right now so is able to go to all my appointments.
  • Thanks ladies! I think it makes sense for him to be there since he's not working that day. For some reason I've been thinking about it as a solo event but on another board I kept seeing "we", so I figured I'd ask.
  • Mine was yesterday and thankfully my hubby was able to come. He runs his own business, so you would think that means he can come to everything, but it can be hard for him to get away. I'm used to doing a lot by myself. He has to go out of town a lot for work as well. I call my sister my stand in husband because she goes to a lot of stuff with me. I would have been fine doing the NT scan by myself, but my sister was insisting on going if hubby couldn't.
  • What is the NT scan? Sorry :-/

It's a Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound that can be done between 11-13 weeks. It's also paired with blood work to screen for potential abnormalities. One of the big ones they look for is the potential for down syndrome.

Oh thank you! My doctor is going To do the blood draw (which was asked if we wanted first) but there will be no ultrasound unless I get a sneak quick peak. Was told the blood draw scans for many abnormalities.
  • I have mine on July 1st. My husband couldn't make the first ultrasound and cannot make this one either. I don't mind though as long as he makes it to the 20 week scan. I don't mind doing things alone. They let me take a video of the baby's heartbeat during my first ultrasound so he could see that which helped a lot.

  • DH will be there for sure! We are fortunate that his work schedule is rotating so we can schedule ALL appointments based on his availability. He will be there for every appointment and neither of us would want it any other way! I say if he is able to be there, he should be :)

DH is coming with me.  This will be our first ultrasound.  I was on the fence about doing the screening, but this is my only opportunity to have an ultrasound before my 20 week scan since my doctor didn't do a dating ultrasound.  I'll just feel a lot better about telling everyone once I get to see that LO is ok.

  • My SO came to the first ultra sound. This is our first, so that was memorable and important. He's trying to save time for when the baby arrives, so he didn't come to the NT. I texted him constantly through the appointment! I did this one solo, and it wasn't bad. But would be nice to have someone with me. He'll def come to the 20 week scan. And my sis wants to come too bc she's never seen one! My mom will prob come to some of the later ones as well.
  • I brought DH so he could see the baby again and be there if the scan showed anything concerning. They can tell you right away if the scan shows a potential problem.
