October 2015 Moms

Signed up for classes today!

Just signed my SO and I up for all of our prenatal classes in August/September. I feel like everything is so close now! Two-ish months until our classes and then only a month or so until LO is here! Makes me anxious and excited all at the same time!! Anyone else signing up for classes/ realizing how close everything is?!

Re: Signed up for classes today!

  • Thanks for the reminder! Keep forgetting how close it is and should probably sign up for the classes soon.  Not sure if they get full or not.  What classes are you taking?

  • That's so exciting! I'm just waiting for money to clear in my bank account, hopefully tomorrow, and then I'm signing us up for a Natural Birthing Class that will start the end of August! We'll be doing ours at the hospital once a week for 4 weeks.

I've been eyeing breast feeding classes as well but I'm not sure when I want to take that.
  • @aprosch Definitely sign up soon! They lady at the Health Education center was so grateful I came in early! She said she had plenty of moms due in July come in and ask her to pull strings to get them in. We signed up for a breastfeeding class, a newborn care class, our hospital tour (which is also a late pregnancy class), and our Prepared Childbirth class! All of them are just one session expect for the Prepared Childbirth class, which is four classes over four weeks.
  • I don't plan to take any other classes. Main one being a child birth class. Is that bad? FTM but they offered a few things at work like breastfeeding, birth plan, and what to expect when baby comes which I am doing. Do I really need to take a childbirth class? I feel like I have been reading a lot of good info and advice on these forums, classes are just the last thing I feel like doing on my weekends off.
  • @christina4436 Personally, I like to be super prepared for everything, that's just how I am! The childbirth class goes over what exactly to expect before, during, and after labor. It also gives me and DH some practice at breathing and relaxation techniques to help with pain and helps us understand how to work together during the whole process. I really think it is just going to give us some "real life" practice at this stuff and that will make me more relaxed when it is time for the real thing! If it doesn't sound like something that is really important to you though, I don't see anything wrong with not taking one!
  • I'm signed up for a breastfeeding clinic and a CPR class at my hospital. I was going to take a prenatal/postnatal class as well as Lamaze, but my hospital isn't currently offering them and I've got no idea where to look. My doctor suggested I call back next month to see about a birthing class they'll be offering in August.
  • I signed up for a birthing class but it is a class from 9-5 on my birthday weekend. I am going to ask around to see if it is really worth it from people who delivered at the same hospital as me. If not, there is a 3 1/2 hour labor and delivery class that I will probably take. My problem is a majority of the classes available are during the week when I am working. If I end up not being able to make it to many classes I just figure women were able to give birth before those classes so I will survive. lol
  • I signed up for 2 day child birth class too! things are getting real!!
  • I've signed up for the hospital tour and breast feeding class. I don't think I'll do the childbirth one. everyone I've talked to says you completely forget everything as soon as labor starts anyway. I feel like my body will know what to do...I hope
  • I just signed us up today as well for our childbirth classes. It's just 2 nights in August (due oct. 12th). It is getting close fast! We are also touring the family birthing center at the hospital in a couple weeks, since ours only does it once a month and we will be out of town for the August one. I will also likely take one of their pre-birth breastfeeding classes.
  • @gograce I feel those are probably the most important two classes, breastfeeding and CPR.  I highly recommend every take a child/infant CPR class.  I am making my husband take one and I'll go with him so he doesn't have to go alone.  I am already certified, but I don't work with babies so nothing wrong with a little refresher.
  • I signed up for a 5 week class my hospital offers that includes breastfeeding, infant first aid and cpr, childcare, and childbirth. I start at the end of July.
  • Yes I feel like it is all coming to so fast! We have been in a childbirth class for 6 weeks (its a 12 week class). Then once that is over I signed us up for newborn care class and a breastfeeding class. Now PP reminded me of a CPR class, I didn't see it offered at my hospital so I guess I'll have to look around for one!
  • We signed up 2 weeks ago as ours fill up REALLY fast. It is scary how fast time goes.... I'll be in the thirst trimester once school starts again.....amazing!! And the first day of school is our first class.......eeek!
