What to do with alert 9 week-olds?

Hi multiples mommas! Need some advice/ideas for my 9 wo twins. First, the "sleep when they sleep" is impossible right now. They still wake up every 3 hours to feed like clockwork (thanks NICU) and after, one is always inevitably awake. They take turns, though! So for 1.5-2 hours after each feeding, I always have at least one baby awake and needing attention. Help! They feed simultaneously but sleeping simultaneously has not been their thing for over a week now.

Next, now that they are awake and alert way more, I need ideas on what to do with them. I want to stimulate their little minds but also have stuff I need to accomplish! We do tummy time, twin time (they stare at each other and babble), read books, play with rattles (well, I shake them near them) and do stretches and generally chatter with/at them. Unfortunately, they are both still on oxygen so wearing them or other activites that require a lot of mobility aren't really an option.

TIA!

  • The schedule thing happens. My kiddos are 9 months and they still don't always keep the same schedule. If you keep feeding them at the same times, they will most likely sync up somewhat. It's hard to remember that they are different people even though they are twins.

As far as activities go - kiddos love the little play mats/mobiles around that age. Turn on music. Give them the little soft taggy blankets to feel and move around. Prop them up in boppies and let them watch you while you do stuff around the house. My husband used to do this and play the guitar for them.

  • You could get one of those play mats with the toys that dangle. My boys loved staring at the little toys and would try to bat at them. There's really not a whole lot to do at that age beside what you already mentioned (tummy time, rattles, books). As for the scheduling thing maybe try keeping the other one awake so they are awake at the same time. And we always did one up both up for feedings and things.

stay consistent with the feedings and they will sync up...  at 9 weeks my twins liked their activity mat and all the things you mentioned.  tey also have always like going on walks.  I don't remember when they started loving their mobiles I think it was 3 months old but they are still obsessed with them.  We got the musical ones 9 two different ones) and every couple of weeks switch them so they don't get bored.  The mobiles allow me 30-45 minutes each morning to get stuff done!  I will be so sad when we have to take them down in a month or so.
