Pedicure anyone?

Has anybody been told that getting a pedicure could induce labor? Or has anyone actually had their labor induced because of a pedi? I am 39 today and my mom is taking me to get a pedi and I've heard from several people if could kick start labor, just curious if it has actually worked for anyone! :>

Re: Pedicure anyone?

  • I recently went to get a mani & pedi, my sister which has a 1 year old adviced me not to have them rub the bottom of my feet... Just let them do the leg massage... I'm 38 weeks

  • I went for a pedi the day before my baby shower . I knew they wernt going to rub my feet even know i wanted them to lol . I at least wanted the massage chair but nope they wouldnt let me have it on , an they wouldnt even rub my legs . It was a buz kill because thoughs are the best parts . The person doing my nails were so scared to do anything because they said they had a girl go into labor when they were doing her feet . She was only 5 an a half months pregnant . So i guess it can happen .
  • It would be from having your Achilles rubbed, it's a pressure point with the potential to induce labor.
  • I wish I could go for a pedi twice a week... Feels so good and I've never heard of them causing labor??
  • I get them all the time and they still rub my feet and legs. There is a pressure point on the inside of the ankles (where you are likely swelling) that can cause premature labor and I just had the therapists avoid that area. Couldn't live without 'em. But if I went today, they'd probably charge me double, my feet are so swollen.
  • We do a pedi every 5 weeks as part of girls night and yes, the massage is OK except for the pressure point around your ankles.
  • I got one last Saturday with no issues, I'm 37+1. Plan on getting another one around 39 weeks, my feet hurt way too bad to not get one plus I want to have pretty feet when I give birth :p
  • I've never heard this. I just got a pedi yesterday at almost 37wks. She rubbed my feet so good and I also had the massage chair on targetingy lower back and I'm good lol.
  • I'm getting one tmrw and don't plan on declining the chair massage or the foot massage. I'm 37w 2d.
  • I got a pedi yesterday and they wouldn't rub my feet. I was so bummed because I was really looking forward to it. Plus, I am almost 39 weeks so if a foot rub could cause labor, I say, bring it on!
  • Update: the pedi was fantastic! And yes, they rubbed my feet (no Achilles though). I'm still not in labor. 39 weeks today btw. My feet are so happy.
  • I was told by my chiropractor that the ankles and wrists are pressure points to start labor...my massage therapist wouldnt go near those areas but the pedi mani place will (i guess they dont care as much) lol
  • I got a pedi on Tuesday. Complete with the paraffin wax, it was phenomenal... they rubbed my feet and ankles, I wasn't too worried about it.
  • This is my other line of work, and yes it can. Just depends on your body and baby. And If they actually massage the correct spot. Some people will ask you if you're coming to try to induce labor and they will really focus on it for you
  • Wow! You learn something new every day. I faithfully go and get a manicure and pedicure every 2-3 weeks and I had no idea. I'm 37+4. (I'm actually going today). Looking forward to the massage regardless 8->
  • 39 weeks Monday an I just got a pedi today an used the massage chair nothing has changed no contractions nothing. An I have tried everything to get things going an nothing so I think the body only goes when babys ready
  • Glad it's ok beacuase i fully intend on getting a mani/pedi when my next paycheck comes in.
  • I told them i wanted the massage chair on . That that was basically the whole reason i wanted a pedi . But they told me the chairs arnt " universal " as in every body is a different shape an size . So even if it does not hit pressure points on one person , it could for another person . I was all for the massage but that was just what they told me
  • I'll be heading to the nail shop soon, c section is next Friday
  • i went today, about 6 hours ago and no conf
  • i went today, about 6 hours ago and no contractions but it did feel amazing!
  • I'm 39+2 weeks and am going today and adding on extra massage! Going to a woman who will massage those pressure points in hopes to get labor going. But agree, wouldn't do this if I were any earlier than 39 weeks.
  • I just had one done with complete massage. No labor yet.
