Rude people

You never know how rude people are until you are 8 months pregnant and your standing on the train and no one offers you a seat. Its a shame of what our society has turned into.

Re: Rude people

  • As a long time taker of public transport, I totally feel your pain.  Especially after my last pregnancy, I am always on the look out for people who need the seat more than me in a crowded train.

  • I do the same thing. I find it incredible rude. Im from Boston anyways so I should expect the rudeness.
  • I feel your irritation! That is rude along with the people who rush and push to get on the train before me (at 8.5 months pregnant) probably so they can grab a seat.

I am also from Boston and I second this, people are sooo rude but it's just normal here unfortunately.
  • Sorry to hear that. Not to brag on my state, but overall people have always generally been kind here in Texas. Not saying that there aren't jerks, but in general I've always been treated well here by strangers.

I have found that taking public transportation every day (buses, trains, subways), shows you a different side of humanity.  People are always nice to me out and about here (DC) too....but god forbid you mess with their commute.

I was born and raised here, but have lived in both New Mexico and California for short stints and can honestly say, there is no nicer state than Texas when it comes to manners. I had family down from New Mexico a few months back and they couldn't understand why everyone waved at them.  I had to explain that its a small town and that's how friendly people are.  I've had folks stop traffic so I could cross the street to get to and from work (I have to walk across the street to get to my building). People always hold doors, no matter who is coming or going.  And the best part is, our cops actually care as well and will stop when they see you stopped on the side of the road to make sure everything is okay, and if not, they will stay with you until someone else gets there to help you!

I used to live in IL but live in San Antonio now. People are definitely overall much nicer here, unless you're in rush hour traffic. Then everyone becomes more important and in more of a hurry than you. I wish it wasn't that way. I'd say that's the one exception I've seen to the TX hospitality.

This is typically how NC and VA are as well. :)

Same here in SC. I've seen countless state troopers and cops changing tires for people on the side of the road. One even did it for my mom when I was younger.
  • Minnesota is so nice except during road construction season. Aka summer

  • People in Indiana are generally very nice, but I live in an urban area near IL so it's kind of hit and miss.

For example, today a man thought it would be appropriate to whip beside me in traffic, flip me off, and proceed to cut me off because I took longer than 5 seconds to accelerate to approximately 60 mph (in a 40) right after the light had turned green. Made me very angry, because he was rude to me for absolutely no reason, since I was seriously just waiting for the person in front of me to go.
  • I almost always had someone give me their seat last time I was pregnant (Seattle metro), but honestly I think it was women more often than men!
