Bottles for bottle fed babies

okay guys, I'm so upset that the bottles I've used with my previous two children are different now. And many people have complained about a few things in the reviews. I've always used playtex drop Ins. I've seen complaints about the new tilt, the lids not opening, and the fact that there is no longer colors. (Which could be dealt with obviously if the other issues weren't all that bad as they sound) not question is, have you used the new drop in bottles and if so, how have they worked for you? And also if you have a favorite bottle that you prefer........ I was surprised by the lack of reviews on many bottles and the different sites I looked through. Thanks!!!

  • We loved the wide neck dr. Browns. No issues at all!

I used medela because they worked well with my breast pump but DS was super gassy so I switched to dr Browns and they were awesome!! Downside is they are pricy- but worth it. Also, a major pain to clean because of all of the parts, but I think the extra steps are worth it.
  • My son liked the avent Classic bottles. He wanted nothing to do with the newer version.
We tried Dr Browns and hey just didn't work for us.

With my first Avent bottles were the ONLY ones that would work for us. We tried all the other brands and it wasn't her refusing them is was complications with the bottles not working properly. Avent remains my favorite and I'm really hoping they work for this baby as well the struggle to find a bottle that works right and is right for baby was one of the toughest struggles we had.
Also she had really bad reflux and colic, no problems what so ever with avent.

I believe my nephew(s) preferred Avent, too.
  • My son loved the MAM anti-colic bottles. They definitely helped with gas/reflux issues and they are designed to be easily sterilized in a self contained unit via microwave. His speech therapist was happy with the design as well.
  • Avent Natural bottles are what we use with our son and have since day one with no problems. We will be using them with this little girl also.
  • My guy switched between bottle and breast.  We used Dr. Brown from day one and he did great.  Just make sure to have a bottle tutorial ready to go for grandparents.  My parents loved feeding him, but could not figure those things out for the life of them.  We got the starter set before he was born and that lasted us for quite awhile.
  • Is it that playtex dropins are not good? I planned on using with my medela pump but as a ftm I could be confused about this whole process?
  • I wouldn't invest in too many before baby comes due to preference issues. My first would take anything so we just used Medela to work with my pump. My second refused to take a bottle ever, we seriously tried 8 different brands My third had really bad reflux so we had to buy yet another brand, Dr. Brown's and it worked great for reflux. However, there are a lot of parts and not so easy to clean so I wouldn't use them unless I had to again.
  • Apparently the new model doesn't accommodate the breast milk anymore. I seen people angry about that as well. They don't close for the breast milk to be stored. @ks24119
  • I recommend born free bottles

    We love tommee tippee ones!
  • We like the mam anti-colic as well. My daughter was ebf until 11 months when I started to dry up. She takes a mam soother so we tried the mam bottles after several other kinds failed and now that's all we use.

  • My son used Avent Classic the Avent Natural weren't out then. We also tried the Similac bottles but I wasn't a fan of those because of all the parts. We absolutely loved the Tommee Tippee (not sure of spelling) bottles but those are on the pricey side. At least for us. We used the ones we got for my shower until he started drinking more then 4 oz. So when we needed 8 oz bottles we used Avent Classic.
  • I used the nuk orthodontist ones my son loved them we were breast feeding for a few months then switched over to the bottle and tried so many and that's the only ones he would take.
  • Always loved playtex drop ins! So easy to use. I plan on using with this next baby so I hope they work!
  • The NUK were the only ones that worked for my son because he had a lip tie, but the great thing was it was super easy to transition him to a sippy cup because they have step 1, 2 and 3 bottles and cups.
  • My daughter wasn't picky at all about how she got her food.  We had easy transition from breast to any kind of bottle and she didn't require the bottle warmed.

  • My son also ate from any container as long as food came out. ButnI just loved Tommee tippie bottles. I loved that he had no gas and the bottles were easy to hold for him when he could already.

@MadBloom @dogsombrero pleased to read this re. MAM bottles. My friend enters loads of competitions and got one of these bottles which she gave to me. I read the reviews and liked that people said they were good if you were wanting to breast and bottle feed, plus the design was so cute so I've just ordered a couple more. Really pleased they're widely stocked in the UK
  • My dd had a terrible latch so I had to see a lactation consultant early on. She recommended the Dr. Browns bottles. They are kind of a pain to clean like pp mentioned, but worked well for us.
  • For my oldest, he never breastfed and we used the Playtex Drop-Ins, but he was a really messy eater and I felt like more formula ended up on his bib than in his belly, so we switched to Dr. Browns wide mouth and he liked those as well, with much less leaking/mess. My second was breastfed, but obviously I had to send bottles to daycare. We used the regular Dr. Brown's bottles for him (only because they fit my breastpump and I was able to pump directly into the bottle).

  • I love my drop ins!! I have used them with all 3 of my kids (5,3,1) I have the old and new. I buy the target drop in liners because they are cheaper, never had any problems with them.
Is it the milk storage bags they say don't work? I never put my bags in the bottle anyway. I would warm up my BM and pour it into the liner. The storage bags are all zip lock now not like the old kind that you had to use a rubber band with, I found some of those and didn't care for them even with the old playtext bottles.

For me I use playtext bottles with all 3
Lanolin brand BM storage bags from target
Target brand drop in liners for my bottles. (For BM, cow milk, & formula)
  • We used Dr Brown's bottles and never had any problems with gas or colic, I wouldn't use another brand!
