2nd Trimester

Stomach tightening

i will be 23 weeks this Sunday. I've started to feel some tightening every now and then in my belly in different spots. It feels harder than other areas in my belly. I put my hand there to rub it & when I do, I either feel a kick from the baby or it goes away. I'm not sure if this is how it's suppose to feel at this stage in pregnancy. Is it just my baby and belly are growing? I'm not really sure what's going on. Any advice?

Re: Stomach tightening

  • Ive had this for weeks..since about 12 weeks. My belly would tighten from.pelvic bone to.rib cage. But.more so just below the belly button. Dr put me on progesterone.as it.was too early for.tightenings. i stoppes those meds.after it gave me.heart palps.
But i am 25 weeks.now and they are very very strong and so.now.im on adalat for.blood pressure . Dr says it ok to have small tightenings once in a while but if they last long.it.could become.an issue.
Always just check with dr even to.ease.ur mind

  • I'm thinking it's just the baby pushing up against me because they don't ever last long. It happens towards both sides of my belly , never in the middle. My belly will get hard in that one spot only.
  • Sounds like Braxton hicks. These are normal! I had them around 25 weeks with DD & this time around they started at around 12 weeks.
Consult with your doctor if you are concerned.

My suggestion as well but my doctor said don't eff around with Braxton Hicks just in case. While they are harmless, they mimic labor (it's the uterus getting in shape - literally, it's practice - so they can feel similar)

Time them to make sure they're not coming at regular intervals. If they're not, it's likely false labor/Braxton Hicks. But my doc said always get anything that feels like contractions checked out.

i had something similar and my doctor told me that it's round ligament pain (i.e., your stomach growing and expanding)
  • I started having that feeling Really early and i did not know what it was, i went to the ER at 23 weeks and they told me I was contracting! Since that i have a lot of contractions every day, not pain at all but I have to go almost twice a week to labor and delivery to stop the contraction and I'm also in medication at home because the contractions get really close! Worry about all the medication I'm using but I have no choice:(

If you are not sure just ask them to check
