Calling all nerds!

My brother just gave me a "real" Star Wars light saber for my birthday/gift to the little one. (It makes the noises when you swing it and hit something!) I plan on hanging it up and using it as a night light. This is the first grand baby and so my brother is an uncle for the first time ever! We have a solar system nursey theme going on. Only problem is we found out we're having a girl. I'm beyond excited for a little Princess Leia but I'm having a difficult time decorating the room to be more girly. Any ideas? I'm making a mobile from a death star, millennium falcon, enterprise, and tardis. The hubby's just bought a wall decal of the death star. I have two sayings cut out "I'm a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar" and "I love you to the moon and back" I'd show pics so this post isn't so long but it's not letting me upload photos. Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • That's a tough one!!! I would say some weeping angels, but, well, you don't want to scare the crap out of baby!!!
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • I don't really have any ideas, but I just wanted to say I love your theme! I love space and I would have considered this for a theme if we didn't already have another one. I'm not sure if you have bedding yet, but there was a cute solar system one on Land of Nod that was very colorful.

Maybe you could have a print with Princess Leia on it? Or you could paint the cut outs a more "girly" color?
  • MB using sheets and throws or rugs in pink ...but honestly ur theme is bad ass she'll be all the girly the room needs!!!!....oooooo mb buy/make a tutu in the color of the light saber and use this shadow boxes to display it like mb over her changing table

  • @wassuphoes just covered everything !!!!! Lolzz good stuff!!!

@justagirl04 I saw this the other day, a DIY Death Star from a globe!

    https://ournerdhome.com/death-star-globe/

I plan on having a pretty neutral nursery with some nerdy elements thrown in, Harry Potter, Dr. Who, Star Wars, etc. I can't wait to decorate!

@FrozenMommy ahhhh! Ha ha a weeping angel would be terrifying! Even now, I don't think I would want one in my room! For a baby I would say a Dalek is less scary, and better yet, an adipose! They are too cute. I just bought a story book because it had a character on the front that looked like adipose.

ETA: I missed the part about making it more girly. I think it's fine as is, but you can add pops of bright colors (like Galaxy colors) in pink and purple and sparkly gold. Add some glitter!
  • Couldn't add this pic to the last comment, but colors like this for a more girly Galaxy/stars idea.
  • If you search for Star Wars nursery on Pinterest there are a ton of great ones! We talked about doing one at the beginning :) My best suggestion is don't think too far in to "girl" or "boy" - they are illusions of what is masculine and feminine. We are team green so we don't know boy/girl, but all the outfits we have picked out revolve around dinosaurs, super heroes, star wars, etc.
  • @wassuphoes clowns are terrifying. Please tell me your mom didn't have clown dolls or figures! I'd be traumatized!
  • We are doing star wars room and bought a little nightlight that shows either the Milky Way or Star Wars galaxy on the ceiling. It would be really cute for your room too!

There are some really cute printables on Etsy that are in grey and pink. I bought a set of prints, used a collage frame I already had, and printed them at Walmart for around $10 total. You can find pretty much anything you're looking for! The seller I got mine from also does custom designs.
  • Like PP put, hit up the Funko Pops! They have Dr Who, Star Wars, and Firefly Funkos. My phone is acting up and won't copy it, but type in Star Wars Princess Nursery in Etsy. There are some cute prints for some additional art work. I believe Mini Heroes had the Star Wars Nursey prints. I bought their Avengers Prints and they are awesome. Thinkgeek.com has some cool Star Wars things. I know on Etsy there is a Yoda Security blanket that is adorable! On Etsy you can also get crochet Dr Who, I want a Capaldi. I believe Thinkgeek.com also has a lightsaber holder. Hubby and I are Marvel/Star Wars/Dungeons and Dragons nerds.
  • Our girl is getting a star wars theme. I searched for it on pinterest. As someone else mentioned, I am making a death star from a globe (but making it pink). Her furniture is grey, with a light blue shabby chic dresser. And then I'm throwing in a pink chevron area rug. And pink lamp shade with a gold base that I found on clearance at target. The room colors are all pinks, grey, and gold then I'm throwing in the Star Wars stuff. I think the etsy pictures from the comment above me come in a shabby chic background, so I'm getting something similar to that as well.

I'd add pictures, but I'm on my phone. :(
  • As a scientists and fellow star wars lover I see no reason in trying to girlify your nursery! I'm sure you'll find plenty of cute accents to go in her room and she'll love it. Bring on the planets and wookies! I thought of doing a nature/science inspired nursery (team green) and found lots of cute ideas on pinterest. Have fun!
  • have you checked out etsy? they have tons of stuff under nursery solar system, a lot of which seems gender neutral: https://www.etsy.com/search?q=nursery solar system
  • I think what you're doing for the nursery is just fine! We wanted to do a dragon themed nursery but all we could find were "little prince" nurseries and we're having a little girl. So i think what we're gonna do is make it gender neutral with nerdy girly elements!

Don't forget Padme Amadala as a girl character too for Star Wars!
