Specialist

We went to the doctor yesterday for our anatomy scan and now have to go see a specialist because our baby has bright spots on her heart (which they say is a sign of Down's syndrome) and because the tubes going from her kidneys to her bladder are enlarged. Has anyone else gone through this, I'm very concerned for our little one.

  • We had the bright spot at our scan too. Was really scary. We went for a more in depth ultrasound, met with a specialist, had blood work and met with a genetic counselor. My quad screen was normal which we found out right after the anatomy scan. The specialist said everything looked 100% normal but the small shiny spot which is actually a calicification. After 2 weeks of waiting the blood test they did was 99.7% accurate and was able to check the baby's DNA. Luckily everything came back 100% normal. I don't know much about the kidney and bladder BUT they said the heart spot is a soft marker. Many people with out downs have it and some go their whole life With out knowing. I knew how scary it is. I was a mess the whole time waiting. But hopefully everything is ok and this is just precautionary to check everything. Good luck. You can PM if you have any other questions.
  • I experienced this bright spot about a week and a half ago. I did a ton of research driving myself crazy about it until the results came back Friday. A lot of information I found said that with technology of ultrasounds developing and becoming so clear, they're finding it more and more common even in completely normal babies.

It's stressful to think something can be wrong with your child, but ultimately, try to take comfort in the fact it's your baby and will love you either way.
  • Thank y'all my appointment isn't until July 31st so I'll have plenty of time to pray and try to turn my mindset positive.
  • That is a long time to wait. Hopeing for good news and sending good thoughts your way. I have my app today (19 w) and even if everything was ok until now...i've been feeling baby kick really low. I mean like foot in the vagina low.

    THIS!

we had a calcification during our AS yesterday and the Dr told us the same as above. With no other signs he wasn't worried at all.
