Curious ladies...

when did your OB like at what week did they did the ultrasound to find out babys progress if he/she is head down and how much he/she weighed? I'm turning 34 this weekend and Friday I have an appointment but my OB hasn't mentioned anything about that ultrasound is it because I'm still early? (FTM) just curious thank you ladies in advance !

Re: Curious ladies...

  • I had mine today and I'm 32 weeks. Surpriseingly baby is head down. I though he wasn't.
  • Loading the player...
  • I had one last week for other reasons but found out the weight and that it is feet down. Doctor's appointment today he also believe it is still feet down and will do a check at each further appointment with a hand held ultrasound.
  • Not every OB will offer an ultrasound unless there is a complication or something appears to be off. I will not be having one, my next appt is at 36 weeks. They told me baby was head down and they were able to tell by feeling around my belly. That is most likely what they will do in your case as well. As far as weight goes, you will likely be like most of us and have it be a surprise. :)
  • My doctor also checks position with her hands. They will only do another ultrasound if there is a compilation or questions arise.

  • No ultrasound here either. My doctor felt with her hands and told me baby's head was down.

  • I have a growth scan at 36 weeks.
  • My doc whips out a portable U/S machine whenever she wants to double-check something. Like if they can't find the heartbeat easily with the doppler. Anyway, at the 34 week mark she was pretty sure baby was head down but her butt felt really round so she pulled out the ultrasound to confirm her position. Then she checked the water in the amniotic sac too while she was at it and said it looked good.
  • My last appointment my ob told me she was head down just by feeling. I asked when I would get another ultrasound and she said not until the last 4 weeks. The other posters are right...usually ultrasounds aren't needed unless there are complications.
  • I've never had an us after my anatomy scan at 20 weeks, with any 3 of mine. My ob had always been able to tell they were head down by feeling around and the same with my midwife this time! Every doctor could have different ways though so just ask your doctor next time you see them and see if ta have thats something they do (:
  • Baby #3 and I've never had an ultrasound beyond the anatomy scan. Your doctor should be able to tell by feel..

I have an ultrasound next visit and I have no complications or anything alarming going on . I'll be 35 weeks which caught me by surprise because I haven't had one in a while since my anatomy scan . Well besides an elective 3d4d one I had done .
But my OB was able to tell if baby was head down by feeling , he's been head down for a month or two now .
And I also had an ultrasound at my appointment before the one I had this week because I actually saw my actual doctor who will be delivering my baby for the first time and he wanted to see what everything was looking like for himself because since I started going there I been seeing his nurse practitioner .
  • I only have 1 ultrasound, the an anatomy scan. My midwife has been able to confirm head down the last two appointments just by feeling. Some days I can even feel the head around my pelvic bone.
  • I only had anatomy scan as well, I will not have anymore unless there is a concerning issue

I had a growth scan at 33 weeks last week, they were worried he was too big but apparently he's perfect. He was about 4 pounds and has been head down since 20 weeks. They only do scans at this stage if they think something might be wrong, normally the DR will just feel your stomach. I'm sure she's head down by now anyway but even if she isn't there is still time for her to turn or measures the DRs can take to turn her.

P.S your 3D scan is adorable
  • My practice only does ultrasounds, outside of the dating scan and anatomy scan, if they have a concern with baby's development. So most healthy pregnancies will not have another. I had a 36 week scan due to pre-e right before being induced with my first. Baby was head down but when delivering her she was face up.

This exactly for me.  I haven't had an ultrasound since the AS and I won't unless complications arise.  My doctor was able to tell me the baby's position just by feeling my belly.
  • You don't need an US to figure out if baby is head up/down. My Dr. simply felt my uterus and was able to tell. If you have no complications, ultrasounds are unnecessary at this point.

This. My doctor won't do any more unless it's medically necessary. They were able to tell she was head down just from feeling (and we had an elective 4D last week, confirmed she's head down). I think most doctors won't US unless there is a concern at this point

I had a second ultrasound at 32 weeks but more for measuring size. Doc said he wanted to know what percentile he was at..
  • Mine does a confirmation scan at 36 weeks because after that is when they are least likely to flip, but nothing is 100%! She just gets an idea of size and confirms head down/up!
  • With my first two my only ultrasound was the 20 week anatomy scan. I don't think they do more unless you are high risk or there is a concern to do one.

This is how my OB found my daughter's head at my last appointment too. I haven't had an US since 20 weeks and not to sound like a broken record but the estimate of the babies weight is exactly that.. An estimate. So I'm not really worried about weight.. She's growing and that's what's important to me.

Yeah for some reason I thought they would do another one lol but so far baby boy is good and healthy so no need for another one so far he is head down :) I've been feeling the pressure more and more each day & thanks love bug (3D picture)

I never had that ultrasound with either of my previous pregnancies - it was just 8 weeks and 20 weeks for both.

With this pregnancy, the only reason I'm getting more ultrasounds is because of placenta previa.
  • I had a lot of ultrasounds my last pregnancy because I got pre-e and the umbilical cord inserted at the top instead of the middle of the placenta so they were monitoring his growth more.
This time so far I have only had 8 weeks, 12 weeks NT scan and 20 week anatomy scan. I have my last ultrasound on Monday, at 35 weeks, to check her size and position since I am considering vbac vs repeat c/s. However those "growth scans" can be off by over a lb so take it with a grain of salt. Last time I stressed my son would be small because they kept telling me he was. He was pretty much 7lbs when he was born 2 weeks early, so I'm not going to worry this time. However I wasn't going to argue another sneak peak at this baby for a growth scan before she makes her debut ;)

  • My ob does a quick us every visit to check heartbeat. I did have growth scan yesterday at 32 weeks because Lo is measuring big. She is 5lbs approximately and in 76th percentile. They are sending me for another at 37 weeks to keep an eye on her size. Her dad is very tall and was 10 lbs 11oz at birth so we expected a big baby.
