Diaper rash ?

I've never seen a diaper rash in person.. Google is horrifying....

He has a small circle around his anus..I'm assuming mostly from moisture and gas...his formula doesn't seem to bother him and I'm still trying to breastfeed. His leg hip area is a little red too..he keep his legs curled up.

Anyways what's your diaper routine? How do you keep them dry after you wipe them down? Baby powder on a cotton ball or ointment? I have Burts bees at home but it's so thick it seems like it'll just hold in more moisture. I'm afraid I put on his diapers a little tight because he was peeing out the top of them.... I tried baby powder this time around...guess I'll see how that goes.

Re: Diaper rash ?

  • I also use Desitin and vitamin E cream. I make a THICK layer to help create a water proof layer between his poopie and bootie. I literally make a cocktail of creams.

  • Just a dab of something on the red area on his bum should be fine.  The leg marks are just from the elastic, not really a rash.  I don't put anything on my lo generally when i change her, her skin should get to breathe.

  • Agreed with PP. After a wipe down I will sometimes put some diaper rash cream on. Otherwise I leave it alone so his skin can breathe. Once DS gets a bit older and stops peeing/pooping on the change table I will keep the diaper off for a few minutes to let his bum have some air.
  • Put A&D ointment on him every time to prevent diaper rash. Works great.

A & D every time and a bunch of it to make a good barrier to protect.
  • Triple paste was the only cream that worked for me! So great
  • Thanks ladies. I wish I could let his butt air out. Maybe soon. I need a puppy pad instead of a changing pad.
  • After working with babies and toddlers, I learned that if there's no rash, then it's best to just wipe and diaper... let the bums breathe. That's what I do with LO as well. Sometimes I'll just put a bit of vaseline and so far this has worked for us. No rashes yet. I have A&D and Butt Paste ready to go if needed... just no need yet.
  • How much are you breastfeeding? My son had a red ring around his anus from too much foremilk. It can be caused by too much lactose if you have foremilk/hindmilk imbalance or if he's just not latched long enough to get the fatty hindmilk. It's also called an "allergy ring" but if he doesn't seem bothered by the formula that's probably not it.
